Hearing Protection Options for Hard of Hearing

There was a discussion here on hearing aids a few months back but I have a question that was not answered in that thread. If am looking at hearing aids and would strongly prefer to go over the counter. For those here that have hearing aids that are hunters and shooters is there an option gor everyday wear that has protection built in? Do most hearing aids cut out from a gunshot?
At the range I wouldn’t mind simply putting muffs over hearing aids or taking them out, whatever. But for deer and turkey hunting what are you guys doing? Walker electronic muffs or plugs or similar? I have a set of electronic muffs which are good enough to hear conversations at the range but I don’t think I would be wanting to locate a snapped twig or distant turkey gobble with them.
What have you had good (or bad I guess) luck with?

Tag, I bought the AXIL and they work good when I have 20 minutes to get them in my apparent odd shaped ears. I purchased every different size and style earhole plug they offered. I have friends that have them, and they really like them.

What is the battery life on the axil? Will they go all day in a tree stand on a charge? Do you know if they work under a hood or stocking hat or would they drive you nuts rubbing on the fabric?

@john 800 ,I haven't tried them for all day hunting or worn a hat over top. I used them for the range for 3 to 4 hour sessions during hot months. The battery life in them seems to be good though. I have worn them and put them back in the truck without charging und pulled them out the following week and had plenty of charge left.
I did turn them off when I put them back in the truck.

I use Walkers game ears for turkey hunting and early bow season. When it's very cold I use Walker's muffs so even with my hood up I can still hear that twig snap. Muffs are worn on the outside of the hood so you don't have feedback issues. Both cutoff upon a gunshot.

Make the investment and get a good suppressor. It is absolutely amazing hunting with one, once you do you won’t go back.
Tempting, but I have a phobia of paperwork. May still have to look into it though. I really don’t know much about the process

I have a set of Otto noizebarrier micros and I love them. I use them for F-Class matches and turkey huniting. Can’t help you on OTC hearing aids for everyday use. I’m anxious to see more responses because my hearing is bad. Wife is continuously complaining about my non responses to her questions and requests.

I wear hearing aids. At the range or shooting gophers I've used the amplified hearing muffs that block the sound of the shot. I don't find them the most comfortable. I saw Walker's Ear Bud Headset (GWP-RPHE) advertised on this sight and bought a pair. I purchased them last fall and didn't use them till a few weeks ago.
I found the foam part that enters the ear to be much to large. As the directions say 'roll the between your fingers to compress them, place them in the ear and hold them in for a short time. I repeated this step a number of times, I know the drill, I'm a retired construction worker, I've worn foam ear plugs a lot. The Walker's would not stay in. Part of the problem was the short cord, with the adjustment, between the plugs. It would get caught on my shirt collar and pull the plug out. I never did shoot with them. I just grabbed for the uncomfortable tried and true and got to shooting. I contacted Walker's by email, the response was just 'compress the foam'. Not very satisfactory, do I need to say 'I'm done with Walker products. On the positive side my two rifles shot very well.

I just visited an audiologist today about purchasing hearing aids. I still work FT and work requires that we wear ear lugs all the time. I asked the audiologist if the hearing aids I was purchasing would qualify as ear plugs at work and the answer was "unfortunately no". For shooting pistol I wear muffs. For rifle I use ear plugs because it's hard to get a cheek weld to the stock using muffs.

Every time I shoot I take out my hearing aids and use quality ear plugs or a combination with muffs based on how the range is set up and whether I am shooting or observing until my relay up.

I don't believe OTC has this option. You will have to go to prescribed models.

These get great reviews for OTC https://www.amazon.com/OTTO-NoizeBa...pcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A1G6TSWPQORPYY
