The instant Indicator takes all uncertainty out of measuring. It threads not your press like a die, and you run your case up into it with the appropriate shell holder just as with any other reloading process. No variance in readings, especially if you set your press to cam over. I use them in every serious caliber of mine in a Redding T-7 press and you can repeatedly check headspace, case length, OAL. I own the Hornady headspace gauges too, but almost never use them. Not familiar with it but it sound like an improvement over the bump gauge / caliper system. I know it took me some time to get my technique down to I could obtain repeatable measurement.
Not cheap either but I wonder if the RCBS Precision Mic might be easier to use also and less apt to drift since there is no dial gauge involved.
