Hawkeye borescope

With the Teslong, what is the smallest caliber it will accommodate?

Thanks,
.20 caliber, but I don't think the mirror fits. The probe itself will fit but you only have a forward view, not to the sides. Best used .224" and larger.

I have both and was a smith , now retired . The teslong with a wifi adapter is all youll need . Once focused and enlarged is far better than the optical only hawkeye . I find my self only using the teslong . Plus the older you get the more clumsy you ( I) get and breaking a $500 18” long hawkeye isnt fun .
Ive been thinking of selling the hawkeye, if i could only remember where i put it !

If u only look in ur bbls three or four times a year Hen go cheap. If u use it every cleaning ( as I do) then the Hawkeye cannot be beat. Hawkeye optics are the standard that others compare to. So far, no comparison.

Pretty hard to get much better than these pictures taken with a Teslong.

Are these bore scopes worth the money. Anyone compare these to other bore scopes?
Well I have both the Teslong and Hawkeye bore scopes. In my humble opinion the Hawkeye bore scope is much more user friendly and gives me a better image of the bore.

BUT new guy on the block I will be trying SoooooooooooooN!

Lyman Borecam Pro 24" Wireless Borescope.About $270 and you can use your Andriod or I-phone to view your barrel. No wires and appears to be prety simple to operate.

  • Wireless WiFi operation
  • 720P Resolution for a clean, sharp image
  • Fits 20 caliber and larger barrels
  • 24" long rod
  • Can take photos and video
  • Easy to use apps for iOS and Android phones or tablets
  • My only question now is does the the Lyman bore cam have an adjustable focus ? Kind of a really big deal !OR is the 720 P resolution the cats meow in focusing with the lighter and darker switch ?

I agree with paperpuncher, Gradient lens company was one of the only game in town. They are expensive, USA made, but the quality is super. You pay for what you get. I have one that has the monitor, angled attachment and camera that attaches to the borescope . Changed my way of cleaning a barrel and other barrel related question and problems. nilebartram

I have both, I have to say the Hawkeye is the best as far as clarity and simple to use. Teslong takes a bit longer to set up but it is sure nice after that. Even though I like the Hawkeye and it is like new it is going up for sale or trade.

I have the new wifi Teslong with the rigid rod. I’ve looked thru Hawkeyes many times. Teslong is just as good as any Hawkeye but can record video/take pictures. With the wifi model, I just put the power pack in my back pocket and set my linked phone wherever I want. The detail is amazingly sharp.

Worst part about a Hawkeye is not only the ridiculous price, but also that you need to put your eye right up to the scope which means you have to bend over to the barrel, tip the rifle up and hold it with one hand, or set the gun up on a really high table or shelf at head height. Definitely less convenient.

I have a spare 15" Chromebook placed on a shelf and positioned so that I can easily see the screen from my cleaning/viewing position at my work bench. I can either use one of my "wired" Teslong scopes by merely plugging them in or the WiFi model by just turning it on. Just depends on which one I feel like using at the moment. Comfortable, convenient and excellent viewing. I took one of my wired units with me (in a big pocket so I didn't kink the optics) when I went to look at a 6.5 Swede a friend of my son told me was at a local "basement" gun shop. Looked great until I pulled out my Teslong. Left the rifle there when I saw that the bore was corroded from years of neglect and corrosive primers. Price was very good if the bore had been reasonable...too high to make rebarreling worth it. Son's friend now bought one too.

Yeah I had been using the original first gen Lyman borecam for a handful of years. Bought the first style of Teslong with the flexible tube and used it once. Just wasn’t as convenient or easy to use as the rigid rod on the Lyman so the Teslong sat in the box collecting dust. Still have it and still don’t use it.

But when Teslong launched the rigid rod model, plus wifi for no wires connected to a stationary device, I jumped and got one of those as well. The extra detail I was able to see in the bores with the Teslong was right on par with looking thru a Hawkeye. WAY better than the Lyman.

So now I have 3 borescopes. Guess it’s nice to have backups in case something goes haywire.

The reason the Hawkeye is so good is because it’s a straight optic. Not transmitting video. Of course you can spend another small fortune for the camera adapter. But by that time you could have purchased a dozen of the Teslong wifi rigid borescopes for the same price and yet been able to resolve pretty much the same detail with the Teslong along with all the added video recording and photo features. So to me the Hawkeye just makes zero sense in this day and age. They have been outdone.

I think everyone that shoots and takes it seriously should have some kind of a way to look inside the bore and see what's going on. There seems to be three types of people when it comes to bore scopes...many folks believe bore scopes should all be thrown away and you should let the target tell you what you all you need to know. The second says just get one that works and the third wants the best. Whatever gets you thru the night.
Saying that Hawkeye sales have dropped off because of Teslong is like saying Zeiss sales have dropped off because Leapers just released the latest $49.00 yellow tinted piece of Chinese communist junk. Still, a scope is better than no scope.
