Hawkeye bore scope, light band

My HS17 Shot Kit scope has a band of bright light across the view. It is 80 deg to the mirror/indicator groove and covers mid 50% of the picture. Being a lot brighter it makes it difficult to see the whole view clearly. Same thing with bulb or LED. Anyone notice this or got ideas why. Scope is 3 yrs old and had little use, can't say if this light band was there from new.

Sounds like you changed the bulb ? Have you refocused it ? Every Hawkeye is adjustable , the ones that require the small Allen wrench are a little , little harder to focus than the more expensive units .
Clean each end and refocuse , make sure your bulb / flashlight assembly is in the correct order and position .

One thing you might want to try...I think I got mine at Lowe's, is an LED conversion bulb. Maybe we have different Hawkeye scopes, but when I got mine it had a regular Mag-Light with a standard filament type bulb. Hawkeye offered an "upgrade" light that was about $100.00 or so and it was just the Mag-Light with an LED bulb. I think I paid like $15.00 for the one I got from the big box hardware store, but it works perfectly. Might want to try an LED conversion if you don't already have that style bulb.

Edit: As Ggmac says, you might need to focus the light...it's been so long since I focused mine I want to say that the LED conversion eliminated the need to focus. Maybe I am wrong, I will go check it...but I do remember having to focus it every time I used it before. Cannot remember having to focus it lately. The idea that my luck is so good it has stayed focused for years is very unrealistic!!!

Checked everything & nothing found, light and eyepiece in focus, cleaned all glass parts. No light band visible with straight tube or mirror on, outside the barrel. The light band follows the mirror rotation. Thought it may have been the bulb filament as it is straight wound but when rotating the torch on the light post the band is stationary. LED globe shows the same band.
Perhaps it is caused by the mirror reflector surface once in the SS barrel. Will contact Hawkeye again.

I noticed this on mine. It generally happens with 22 cal and I finally decided it is the light reflecting because the mirror is close enough to the other side of the bore. Does yours do it with only 22 cal or others. Try it with bigger calibers and see what happens.
