Have some 10-year old Russian primers; are they safe to use?

Have these old russian Wolf large Rifle Magnum Primers that I bought about 11 years ago and was WANTING TO RELOAD some Norma 6.5 Creedmoor brass with 130 gr. Nosler Bullets. Would these primers be usable or are they too hot? I purchased them to reload black powder cartridges, but got out of it before I really got into it. I have purchased a Ruger precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor and its a real honey; though a little bit heavy. I am wanting to ignite RL15 which I also have some of.
It was suggested to me recently that the only difference between the Wolf Magnum and the Normal primers was the brass in the cup of the magnum primers was thicker than the normal primers? Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Thanks and have a great weekend,.................Ray

I still have some 17 year old federal 210Ms. Special lot I always had wonderful luck with. They got reserved for registered matches. They still produce the best ES with H4350 I can attain.

Thanks so much guys for all the great info!!! I almost decided to sell them off, sure glad I found this forum. I haven't reloaded ammo since the late 80's and a good friend was telling me about long range varmint matches they have at a range just across the state line. He said most of the guys shoot the Creedmoor, either in 6mm or 6.5mm. They had one for sale at Rural King, so I got it and some loaded Norma ammo...................

I wouldn't chance it. Ya better send them to me for disposal!
on a serious note, That's about all I shoot and some of them are easily 11 years old.

Don’t bother with what Lloyd said, you can count on me to dispose of them properly and I’ll even pay your shipping charges.... :)

Too old? No

Too hot? Also no. The Wolf/Tula LRM primers are literally just their regular LR primer with a harder cup. For a 6.5 Creedmoor they should be fine, put them in an ultramag and you will not be happy. The Russian LR primers are already one of the mildest primers out there, and won't ignite 90 some odd grains of Retumbo for $#!^.

I have a lot of the Wolff and Tula primers (both made in same plant by Murom). I did a lot of velocity comparisons using the magnum rifle and pistol primers versus their standard counterparts. I actually recorded less velocity using some of the Magnum rifle primers. In no case die the velocity ever deviate by 30 fps from regular to magnum - so I too think they are all the same except cup. As for age - they are youngsters if stored half way decently.

On a further note; thanks again!!!. I also have some Rem. 9 1/2 I am planning to keep for lead(cast bullets). Are the Russian primers also good for cast bullets? Really looking forward to warmer weather and getting everything running again. I know its going to be more than a few months...............
