have a set of redding deluxe dies, what else?

Bought a fine lightly used rifle in 6.5 -284, the previous owner also sent a couple of hundred pieces of lapua brass and a set of deluxe dies.

I have always used two dies for 308 and 6, but this is my soon to be competition gun. so use the full size die with no decapping pin, next
use the neck sizing die (which also has a decapping pin, trim, prep pockets, load , seat), should I be looking to purchase a bushing die and competition seating die instead of using the dies in this set?

Just wondering why you would first FL size and then neck-size. It doesn't seem like there would be any benefit in that.

trying to learn while ready the articles in that section of this site, but needed some clarification. The redding die set has a full length sizzler with decapper, a neck sizer with expander and decapper, then a seating die with crimp''''''most accuracy oriented competition reloaded are doing it differently, so time to ask questions.

I believe you can move the expanding/decapping stem between the Redding neck and FL dies.
If you plan to neck size, you will still need to full length size every 3rd loading or so. I can't imagine a situation where you would want to both full length and neck size in the same loading.

several brands use "deluxe" to describe a die set with all the options a loader might want, it doesn't mean you will want or need to use all the features.

Good luck and have fun learning !

So, what is the proper sequence considering half the brass I received I know nothing about, the other half is primered, must have been trimmed measuring 2.16, necks are .292.....they may have been loaded, but the seller did not want to ship loaded ammo so he pulled the bullets

Really? Save having to change dies and pull the press handle twice. Since we're discussing Redding, the Type S Full Bushing Die does it all in one pass. With a set of Competition Shell Holders, excellent control over both neck and body sizing. I've got a bunch of neck dies and body dies, and in retrospect I'd have just bought all S Dies.

Thanks for pointing out my sort of unclear statement. I haven't purchased a Redding deluxe set and was confused , thinking it included a type s full length die and a type s neck die. I realize now the OP probably meant the delux set came with a type s neck die and a body die. The point I was trying to make was if the die set included both the neck & full length type s dies, then you could use one or the other depending on number of fireings.

I think we are on the same page, and agree it is totally reasonable to use a body die in conjunction with the bushing neck die.

The Redding "Deluxe" die set comes with a standard FL sizing die, a standard neck sizing die, and a standard seating die. No bushings. And no "Type S" die.
