Has anyone formed 6.5 Grendel into 6ppc?

I have a bunch of 6.5 Grendel that I was thinking about forming into 6ppc to use for varmint shooting only. I pulled up a few posts that kinda sounded like it could be done, but the posts just went around in circles and never really answered this question. If you have done any of this forming please let me know how it all worked out. Thanks.

It could be done but reforming the case would not be easy (you would need something to size down about .075" of the case behind the shoulder to PPC neck diameter - probably the only way would be in increments). You would also need to trim it because the brass would be too long. It would be a chore for sure. Best to buy 220 Russian and make it into 6PPC.

Personally, "red", I think it would be just a simple full-length sizing and then turning the neck to the desired thickness. Should be good brass. Let us know if you try it.

If you aren't set on the ppc, check out the 6mmAR. It is the Grendel necked down. Dies and info are available on 6mmar.com .

1 pass through a ppc die and trim. Done. I sent the cases off to Dave Kiff and had a reamer made so I could use then right out of the die No fire forming, no neck turning, no trimming needed, Less work and more play.

The only reason I am asking this question is because I can get the once fired Grendel brass for free because I know several shooters that shot the Grendel and do not reload. So, it was me thinking about how I could turn it into 6ppc and maybe even 22ppc. I appreciate the feedback...the colonel.

I would really like to know the answer to this same question. I have a 14 inch SSK Contender barrel that was chambered by JDJ in 6mm PPC. I bought the barrel because I'm a 6mm fanatic and the 6mm PPC was a real curiosity in the Contender. I'm by no means trying to shoot competition just need some brass to make up some hunting rounds.

It would be quite a chore even for just a few.

KLR32, I would not expect an answer from redfeather. Thread is over 11 years old and he hasn’t been on forum since 2014. Hopefully some folks that have tried it will chime in. Bill and other posters have said it would be hard. The price of Grendel brass now days makes me think it would be easier to sell the Grendel brass and put a wtb add for .220 R or ppc brass. Good Luck on whatever you do.

Quite a few years ago i bought a box of Lapua Grendel brass just to satisfy my own curiosity whether i could make usable PPC brass from it, just in case 220 Russian brass got hard to find here in Oz. All i did was lube the brass and run it through a Redding body die, anneal, trim to length, then shoot. Worked great in my BR guns,, unless you looked at the head stamp you'd never know the difference. YMMV

It’s easy to do whether it’s a search from you or someone else. I’ve been got so many times I look at the date anymore but there are still a lot of old threads with very good info in them. I’ve noticed when you ask for opinions you get a fifty fifty answer of yes and no.

I've done just the opposite, forming 6 Grendel brass from 220R brass. The neck ends up a several thou short but it shoots great and the brass is top notch. So is the Lapua 6.5 Grendel brass but it's unobtainium right now.

I am really more interested in starting with 7.62x39 brass since I have about 800 pieces of once fired brass. I only need the cases to be a minute of groundhog head to do what I need them to do. Lol

Since purchasing this barrel I would have to believe that case design can be the foundation of a very accurate gun. The 6mm PPC has amazed me in the Contender barrel. I did purchase 50 pieces of Norma USA brass when I got it. Loaded them with 26.0 grains of Varget and the Speers 75gr HP bullet. Even with a 2-7x32 pistol scope I can manage sub 1/2 inch 5 shot group from a good solid bench and home made sand bags when I do my part and both pull a flyer. My 6mm TCU and 6mm JDJ both just shot at around 3/4 inch groups at best.

JD did not ingrave the twist rate on this barrel. I will try to do a cleaning rod calculation on it but don't have much luck trying to do the short pistol barrels as I do long rifle barrels.
Not sure if this barrel was made from a different blank than what he used for his other 6mm rounds the 6mm JDJ and 6mm JDJ #2 but his load data for these rounds are only given with bullets from the 70 to 90 grain range. So I'm just guessing at 1 in 10 twist.
