Hard gun cases

I like the Plano Airglide for general trips to the range with wide-forearm rifles. Gun drops in from the top. It holds my thin-buttplate ST1000 tracker with 30" barrel with about 1/2" to spare.

I bought mine through Amazon.com when they were on sale for about $35.00. Now they are $44.02 with free shipping.

Some guys found some of these under $40.00 at Walmart, but I don't know if they still have any.

+1 on the Airglide. I picked up three when they were $35. I keep my cleaning rod and chamber flag in it and depending on the gun, I can get a couple boxes of ammo underneath the barrel. The only con is stackability.

You'll usually find the best deals on ebay.

Search around for the case you want, check for best prices at normal vendors, then search for it on ebay to see if you can get it cheaper yet. That's what I do and I always seem to save a lot of money that way.

MidwayUSA.com has a ton of different cases, but their prices aren't always the best...

I bought the Airglide when Amazon had them on sale here . Bought several and suprisingly have used several on the 3" wide forends - - work great. No regrets .

We've got a couple of Starlight brand double rifle cases. These things are beasts. They've been to Africa, Argentina, etc. with no drama. I picked them up at Sam's Club of all places a couple of years back. They'll hold my 29" barreled 338/378, plus another 26" barreled rifle, both with bipods, scopes, etc. They go for $200 plus on the website but I think if you shop around on the web you can find them cheaper. If you're going travel with it, whatever you buy, buy one with wheels.

What hard cases do you guys use for rifles too long to fit in an air glide or the pelican case?

My 28" barreled f-class rifle will not fit in the airglide but will fit in the pelican (barely). I'm building another with a 31" barrel.

No vote one way or the other but some are cutting a slot or hole in the end to accomodate a longer barrel. I assume they have some type of cover to protect the muzzle.

Yea, I just can't get myself to do that.

+4 on the Airglides by Plano. I have 4, all used on rifles with 3" forearms. I like transporting my guns upright with no side pressure.

Plano makes the best all weather, all around cases. I have the double rifle. Great locks, very sturdy with wheels. I think I spent around $130.00.
