The information gained from this forum is well worth the upgrade fees. I also gain valuable knowledge from Snipers Hide. I do not feel right about not returning some type of reimbursement to that forum however ,being retired, and somewhat limited on cash flow, I cannot afford the requested monthly or annual fee,for that forum.

The upgrade fees requested here for the services and information provided are definitely worth it.

The contributing members will remain at 3 to 4% until you mandate being a supporter to use the classifieds. Period. I have had some amazing transactions in the classifieds with other members. This is "the site" to sell or buy the products we enjoy! That, in itself, has to have a dollar value. Period. Who cares how many members there are if the same 3 to 4% only contribute! The classifieds is a gold mine waiting to be tapped. Asking for donations does not work. The classifieds "is" providing a service . People will pay for that, and have no qualms about it.

Concerning losing member count by making them contribite to use the classifieds.

Would the Forum Boss rather lose some member count or have members that count and pay their share?

When the 3 or 4 % pay for the rest that ride along, that is called........well, you know.

IMO: You'll have a harder time asking/getting people to join for access to the classifieds if they can't see what they're missing.

You'd have to figure something out, perhaps they can only see SOLD prefixes, so at least people see what they missed.

There should be a "Read Only" box to check for each section in the
forum software.

But nothing stops them from PM'ing the seller to complete the purchase. So, if your goal is to make the classified section for members only, active listings would need be un-viewable to non members.

Either way, I'm not for that. A thriving classified section brings people in and benefits members (sellers).

Overall, I'm not in favor of closed forums, AKA echo chambers.

If the Forum needs more money, and they want to do it through the perk of the classified section, then maybe capping the number of threads for each membership tier would work.

Silver = 10
Gold = 25
Platinum = Unlimited

Forum Boss: This makes sense. Unfortunately there is no standard software solution, and I have not been able to get the creator of our upgrade system to make a change like that. But maybe there is another way to re-think it. I will discuss this with our programmer.

Wouldn't you be penalizing those that are paying now to place ads, and still not receive a dime from non payers for using the rest of the forum.
 
I'm not going to pay more to support those that don't pay anything at all. No way 96 percent of the people here can't afford to pay to keep the site going. I'd like to see the forum boss actually make money on this place. Me increasing my donation while others go for the ride for free is...... Socialism.

Except the number he listed was 3.3% ... of TOTAL MEMBERS. That's not ACTIVE members. That's a big difference, especially in forums who've been around a long time. Inactive people aren't going to give money.

Just look at the participation in normal threads, it's way higher.
 
I looked at paying participants in the ads yesterday, seemed OK.

The only way to check non payers is to look at their post counts to see how active they are.

Ok, how many active members actually support the site? We don't have a clue. I would hope a high percentage....but
