Happy 1911 day

I'm a recovering 1911 addict. Here are a few I sold several years ago.

I traded for my 1911 with full intention flipping it for some more cash but I decided I'd get a box of ammo and at least shoot it first. Well, like 11 years later it's still here. I love all pistols but there is just something about an all steel 45acp in my hands that I can't explain. I've threatened one of those TIsas 45s purely because of the price point.

Since we are sharing pictures of 1911's, I thought I would also.

Here is a pair that I have. Top is a Colt delivered to the US Navy. It is a 1911 built in October 1918. Best I can tell it is all original. Carried a lot but shot very little. Took it over to friend house and we shot it. He said it printed better than his Colt Gold Cup.

Bottom is an Ithaca 1911-A1. Built in 1945. Best I can tell it is all original.

This is a commercial 1911 model, made the last week in March 1923 before they started the 1911A1.

I was thinking this morning a little about the 1911. I've been down the path of buying higher capacity plastic framed 9mm's and carrying them. But when I pick up one of my 1911's, it feels like it belongs in my hand. When I look at a fat 45acp hollow point, I have confidence it will be effective if I have to use it. When I put a full size 5" 1911 in a Crossbreed hybrid type holster, with a proper belt, it's just as comfortable to carry as a plastic nine.

But all of them need a beaver tail grip safety! The old 1911 in the picture above will put a hurting on the web of my hand.

I told this story before but it was sometime back so here we go again.
Back in the sixties I purchased a Colt 1911 with the original Colt clip. It came in small well made wooden box that contain the following: Three extra clips, cartridge belt with first aid packet and leather holster, 10 rounds of ammo dated 1923, small can of bore cleaner and an old Army Calvery Manual showing the correct way to shoot the 45 from a horse complete with Smokey Bear hats.
I paid 125 bucks for it and traded it in1987 for a Browning trap gun and thought I was getting a deal.
