Handgun shipping question

Melvin

Gold $$ Contributor
I recently had a person contact me about a handgun I listed on Gunbroker. I advertised shipping at $75 for Next Day Air per UPS. He commented that UPS allowed Second Day Air on handgun shipping now. Anyone heard of a change in their policy?? It still lists Next Day only on the UPS website, but I don't know how often they update their site
Thanks

I would call ups and get an answer from a supervisor. And it has to go from ffl to ffl.

Melvin, UPS has not changed their policy and neither has Fedex. They are supposed to be shipped overnight to an FFL. I know many who don't send them overnight and they seem to get there ok.

I once asked UPS why they have to go over nite and the lady told me that at the time they were having alot of problems with employees stealing the handguns when they were sent thru standard shipping. So by sending them over nite as she stated "fewer hands touch the packages and it was easier for UPS to keep track of whomever handled them thru overnight "

Sounds resonable, you pay extra to ship so their employees have fewer opprtunities to steal your contents. Am I missing something here? or is this the corporate mantra we deal with.,, Just fire those emplyees that are responsible for the theft, UPS seems to have time studies and efficincy studies for everything else, why not video or better superivision of shipping lines.. ship that pistol in a 2x4 ft :D box
and they will not be apt to walk away with it or open it under the table. I never address anything with a firearm enclosed to an address that could "tip anyone off" that a firearm could be enclosed. Why advertise the contents????

Tonedaddy is correct on both points re handguns. However, the risk of sending it 3-day air etc. (or even ground) is that UPS or Fedex won't honor damage claims or pay the insurance in event of loss. Why? Because you didn't follow their rules.

Of course they have to go to an FFL when shipping, but not a requirement to be shipped from an FFL was my point....

Thanks, Guys
I did not think they had changed. I think the guy that told me that was thinking of "gun parts".

From Gunbrokers site,

UPS: UPS will accept handgun shipments by Next Day Air only. Rifles and shotguns can be shipped by UPS ground service. UPS will accept shipments of ammunition. Most other shippers will no longer accept firearm shipments. Airborne and Roadway have specifically prohibited firearm shipments.
