H4895 in 6br start- max loads with 105-107 bullets

Im looking to try some h4895 in one of my Savage model 12 benchrest (6br). I have always used Varget and has done well for me in my other 6br's but im not getting the accuracy i want out of Varget on this one. Im looking for some start and max loads for H4895 and 105-107 grain bullets. I do know every gun is different and i will work up.
Thank You
Good Shooting

I read this before posting . I do see a lot of guys going several grains higher. German posted on another thread to start at 28 and work up.

1holeaddict, I am shooting H4895 exclusively in my 6BR with 105 Hybrids and am getting some fantastic results. Start at 28.5 and work up in .2 increments. My final load ended up being 29.5 and velocity out of a 28 inch Bartlein is 2835 fps.

I"m shooting a stock Savage F Class 6BR, like 40XGuy found my best combination for accuracy and velocity is 29.5gr of H4895, CCI450 primers and Lapua brass....velocity runs mid-2800's.

Your mileage may vary....

Man that load did not do anything at all good in my rifle... I may have to do a full workup to see where the node is...

I could never get anything decent out of 4895 in my rifle, Varget worked best for me with the 103 Spencers in a 25" barrel.

Funny thing is my nephew has a 24" 6br and can't get Varget to shoot but 4895 has had some beautiful results.

That seems pretty high. What seating depth are you using.

On the advice of a friend, I've begun using H4895 in my 8 twist 6BR's during the off-season. 24" Krieger, .237" bore dia. 29.5 grs., 107 SMK seated to touch, CCI450's.

Velocity is averaging 2815 fps, ES is 16 fps, SD is 6. Excellent 5 shot groups, so far, at 1& 200 yards. Plan on doing some longer distance testing tomorrow.

My match loads have always been 30 grs. of Varget with the 105 Bergers, seated to touch with CCIBR4's, velocity average 2805 out of 26" Kriegers, also .237" bore diameters.

I'm impressed with the H4895 results, so far. Seems like a good alternative powder.

ps: 40XGuy/ Frank: it's all your fault.

I won't post the load but my Viper SS 6BR is shooting 105 Hybrids @ ~2930 fps from a 30" Bartlein 5R, using H4895 in Lapua brass. I just shot the 13th load from my current brass lot and no pressure signs at all. The load also shoots well enough to shoot 450-35X on the 300 yard reduced F-Class target (3X15). [br]
Start load development where German suggested, at 28.0 grains.

I am seating the Hybrids @ .005 off the lands. And the load is very consistent and accurate.

Frank, thats good velocity out of the 24 inch barrel you are shooting. ;)

29 gr shoots good for me with 107 SMKs and 105 Berger VLDs. HBN coated. 29.2 started showing pressure signs. McGowen 8 twist 26" barrel. .010 off the lands with both of them.

This barrel also showed pressure signs with 30.1gr of Varget with the same bullets just kissing the lands.

Well i found some H4895 and loaded up some 107 SMK's today at a proven seating depth in my chamber. I started at 28.5 of H4895 and worked up to 29.5. Im looking for better velocity and a little tighter group than the Varget. I also put a batch of 105 Bergers together. Hope to get out next weekend to do some testing. Are you guys seeing higher velocities with the H4895 over Varget?

I haven't clocked velocities yet as I am just now developing my loads with a new barrel. The H4895 does group better (for me) than Varget. Once I finalize my loads, I will chrono them.
