H4831 sc

I've compared accuracy of the two powders and found no difference, but I've used H4831 since 1965 for what was then a wildcat cartridge, the .25-06. Old habit and I still buy H4831 by the keg. If it was discontinued and the SC was all that was available, that would be okay.
Where do you buy a keg (20 lbs) of powder?

I've only bought eight- pound kegs. I've bought them from Powder Valley for years. I'm unaware of twenty-pound kegs.

My Pop used to buy 20# kegs of Red Dot, Green Dot, Unique, H4831 back in the '70's-'80's. To me an an 8# is just a 8# jug. Keg has always meant 20# to me. I thought you had some secret inside line on old school kegs.

Don't shoot it, but I can see that by changing the surface to volume ratio that the burn characteristics could change and result in a different different pressure curve, although the peak might remain quite similar. Does it matter? who knows except the individual that runs them side by side, so it is entirely possible that one is better than the other in a particular case, and negligible in another.

Because it has exactly the same performance but it meters better in an auto trickled. H4831 has no advantages over 4831SC
And SC has no advantage for a lot of folks that go out of their way to buy it. My 1500 works just fine with it. LC is a lot easier to come by in my area.

Pardon me on the semantics. I'm too young to know about real kegs.
One step further, when I was in my teens, I bought powder from gunship in Ogden Utah. I do not know what size of container he bought the old surplus H4831 in. But I bought it by the pound.
It was packaged in a brown paper lunch sack. The top of the bag was folded over and neatly stapled. Price was written on the bag with a black marker.
77 cents....

That makes you think about the fifty bucks their trying to charge now, doesn’t it!
