Does anyone know if SC will ever replace H4831? It seems to me it should.

Because it has exactly the same performance but it meters better in an auto trickled. H4831 has no advantages over 4831SC

To some extent it already has, I haven't used 4831 since SC came out and I don't think I'm alone.

My simple mind wonders why duplicate manufacturing scheduling at the sacrifice of other powders. Also as noted above, have they stopped making it?

no, in my use sc was worse than 4831...so please never consider the replacement

It's considered the same thing performance wise. If you go on Hodgdon's website, you'll only find load data for H4831 because it's interchangeable.

I wonder if that might have been due to a particular lot number of SC, versus the kernal size?

I did the same with IMR7828. My rifles liked the long cut version better, but SC is all that remains. My beloved Lincoln Logs are gone!

I use them both but actually choose long cut when I can improve load density without going into a compressed load. I cant say it helps but I feel like it doesn't hurt.

I agree with FeMan. H4831 should fill a larger case better.

I used both in my 25/06 and never noticed any difference. I now use IMR 4831SC only. If all I had was IMR 4831 I would not be scared to use it. Both did very well out of the 25/06 with bullets from 85-115 grains.

I liked the SC better but seems like it is gone with the wind lately. The SC seems easier to work with bullet seating when the bullet base is touching the powder.

Back when I shot the 6.5-284 in 1KBR, SC was ideal, as it was 100% fill w/o any powder crunching.

I've compared accuracy of the two powders and found no difference, but I've used H4831 since 1965 for what was then a wildcat cartridge, the .25-06. Old habit and I still buy H4831 by the keg. If it was discontinued and the SC was all that was available, that would be okay.

Don’t have a Benchrest rifle so I couldn’t honestly say. All I know is in the 25/06 there was no difference. In my 300 win mags I used IMR 4350, but, your accuracy requirements are much greater. I would not hesitate to shoot distance animals with the 25/06. It’s no slouch,bought it for varmints to deer.

I saw 1 pounders in the showcase at my local Scheels last week and that particular location is not famous for having lots of powder.
