H4831 and H4831sc what do you use it in?

I counted 22 different calibers for which H4831SC is used successfully. Many were listed more than once, and the .243 and .284 were each listed six times.

I think the list might have been shorter if it were of calibers NOT suitable for H4831SC!

I know this a few years old, but if you don't mind sharing, I'd be curious to know what load and bullet you were using in the 25 saum?

thank you,
Russ
My 25 SAUM hunting rifle likes H4831 and 115 gr Bergers, thats a 10 twist..
My so called 25 SAUM bench gun likes the 130 + whatever's, and H1000 or lately, Retumbo..they all seem to shoot well in that gun. It's a 7 1/2 twist.. All my 25's are Brux...

I started using it in 1967 in my Rem 700 ADL 270. Switched to SC when it first came out. It metered easier. Way back when I first started using it, it was still a surplus powder. I have an empty pound container with the price tag still on it. 75¢

I use it in my 6.5mm CMs. It is accurate and temperature insensitive. It is my alternate to H4350.
It takes a bit more powder than H4350 to reach the same MV but it provides about the same accuracy.
It's a good alternative when H4350 is in tight supply.

22-250AI - 80.5gr Berger
6 CM - 108gr Berger
25-06 - 115gr Berger
6.5 CM - 144gr Berger
6.5x55AI - 142gr SMK
6.5 PRC - 156gr Berger
7x57AI - 168gr Berger
7 SAUM - 180gr Berger
300 SAUM - 208gr Berger

If you can get H4831sc and the price is reasonable, buy it. It may not be ideal or perfect in your application, but I've found that it gets the job done in so many...

I hear you about the price for the original 4831 surplus powder…
I was buying it in bulk from the local gun store in 1967 for 50 cents a pound… Bring your own container and it was weighed out on a bathroom scale… 1’000 Rem primers were $5.50
The SC definitely meters better… I can still remember the “crunch” on the old Lyman powder thrower as you sheared a granule or two…
Also used to go up to the South side of LA to Sierra’s factory and buy seconds in .223 & .308 by the pound and that too was weighed out on a bathroom scale…
Friend and I had a Star Progressive press set up to load .223… Those were the days to go out for a weekend and put 2-300 rds through an AR15 and 100-200 rds of 30-06 through the M1 Garand…

Be careful or you will give away the South Carolina secret load. When I first read about it I got the impression that the GenZs that were discussing thought they were the only ones who had ever used H4831 in anything. They thought it was magic in their Creeds.

Seen 4831 and the sc version available at LGS for $45 and was wondering what you guys have had luck with it in. I was considering picking up some to try in .243 but seems most of the powders I use are coming around except for the price.
Works GREAT!!!
in a 284 Winchester, especially with the heavy 180's

H4831sc has given me the most consistently accurate 200gr JSP bullet loads in 348 Winchester. Good velocity, no evidence of vtemperture sensitivity in this caliber in my rifles.
