Just got off the phone with a guy named Luke who works for Hodgdon Powder Company. I have been hearing rumors about them discontinuing H4198. This is absolutely false. He told me that the cost of importing powder is very high and since H4198 is not one of their popular powders to import, right now they are concentrating on Varget, H4350, and H1000 since those are their biggest sellers. There will be a shipment coming in September with a mixed bunch of powder but he doesn't know if any 4198 will be on that shipment because like I said it's not a very popular selling powder for them.

thanks jim— my trucker buddy told be it was 7000 to get a conex from china to here before the pandemic. now that same deal is 22,000. i dont know what percentage of the price of powder shipping is but its up alot
IMR makes the same powder. (Canada)
If IMR & H4198 are made by same company in Australia, do you think Hodgdon cares what goes in the container?

Old vs new IMR lots of powders- By volume,IMR4198, there can be as much as 1.1 gr difference in weight. 18.5 gr vs 19.6 gr. with the measure at the same setting.
H4198 different between lots also. New lot, start lower, work up.

If you are using H4198 for a 30 BR, you can switch over to LT-30 and there is no downside! LT-30 is available in several places. I have several friends that have switched over and they said they won’t be going back to H4198.

N-130 is another alternative but not as readily available as LT-30.
