I screwed up

well, I had a senior moment and accidentally mixed about 5000 grains of IMR 4198 with about 50000 grains of H4198. after i did it, i mixed the combo together very well. this gives me about 10% IMR 4198 in the H4198/IMR 4198 mix. going to shoot it tomorrow and will see what happens on the loads.

since H4198 is very hard to get right now i am going to have to use it. not worried about safety, just the effect if any, on the previous good shooting loads in my 30BR. i am not shooting competition, so that's not an issue.

it appears the IMR 4198 is a bit faster than the Hodgdon, any real world experience with this?

The IMR4198 has come from Australia in the past. Same country/manufacture where H4198 is produced.

Who knows what Hodgdon has put in the bottle?

IMR 4198 aka (ADI AR 2215) and H 4198 aka (ADI AR2207). I'm confused pls help.

A little history, Remington/DuPont helped set up powder manufacturing in Australia, and in the past, the powders were twins with the U.S.A. Then the Australians at the request of the Australian military made the "improved" powders that were less temp sensitive.

And the American company Pratt and Whitney helped set up the Enfield rifle plant in Australia using American made equipment just before WWI.

Without question, this will be the most accurate, consistent, clean burning, and reliable powder lot you will ever use. And you'll never be able to duplicate it.

:)

The IMR powders are made in Canada by General Dynamics Weapons Division today.

And the H marked powders are made by ADI in Australia that is now owned by a French company.

If your mixed powders do well then keep mixing and you will have a wildcat powder. :)

Just remember the French fleet bottled up Gen. Cornwallis at Yorktown ending in his defeat and us winning our Revolutionary War. So mixing powders goes back a long way. ;)

Double base powder blend - I know a guy that used to play with that. Never blew a gun up, that I know about, and had some very accurate loads and proprietary blends for BR shooting. That low percent and similar mix should be fine as long as you start on the low end of charges. And, it'll probably be awesome and never repeatable as stated above.
