Hello:
I recently barreled a M70 action (yeah old school) with a new Broughton barrel. The caliber is 243 Win. I am going to work up some loads for long range shooting. I read on this website that the slow powders like H1000 can give better barrel life. But is this fact or just opinion? My buddy told me that I should try H 4350 with this cartridge and 107 gr sierra- he claims that this powder is better suited for the 243 win/107 gr.
I tried plugging in H1000 load (46-47 gr) into the barrel life calculator but the result (1700 rounds) din't seem a lot better than 4350.
Thanks,
Chuck
