H1000 & 6.5x47L

Anybody tried H1000 w/140gr bullets in 6.5x47L? It works great in my 260's & 6 Creed, wondering if anyone has tried it.

Thanks!

Too slow burning for sure.

Maybe in the 6x47 L with 115 grainers. but definitely too slow even for the 260Rem.

You would need a compressed load of H-1000 to reach just 2,600 fps with 140's from a 26" barrel.

Heavily compressed loads suck. I don't like them.

Stick with H-4350 burn rate type powders.

RL-16 is the new H-4350

If I had to take a guess... I think 45 - 46 gr of H-1000 would be near MAX with 140's.

It's unlikely you will fit that much because 45 gr H-1000 would fill right up to the top of the neck.

Thanks for that Zero - I use 48.0 H1000 in my 260 w/140 Bergers and avg. 2927 (26" barrel) with single digit SD & ES at 13 - 5 shot groups run in the .2's. I tried 42 grs H4831SC in the x47 (28" barrel) with 140 Hybrids and got 2705 with 5 shot groups in the mid.3's. Got some 42.3's loaded with 4831sc to try. Gonna try 42 grs of H1000 with the 140's, looks like I could go 43, maybe 43.5 without compressing too much. I'll know for certain in the next day or two.

I was just curious if anyone else had messed with H1000 in their 6.5x47 with 140's - guess I'll be plowing some new ground, hopefully with favorable results!

Weather hasn't been cooperating - did get to try out 42.0 H1000 - groups were a tad less than 3/4 of an inch. Also shot 42.3 of H4831SC that got me in the .2's & .3's. I have loaded 42.8 H1000 & 42.5 H4831SC & will chrono them to see where I'm at both velocity & accuracy-wise once the weather breaks. Can't say I've noticed either powder being "dirty" though, I'd think it would show some since it's been so cold out when shooting.

Quick update: got out to the range to chrono today - wind was very blustery with temps in the low 30's so no shots for group. As expected, 42.8grs H1000 didn't crack the 2700fps barrier, averaging 2668/SD 5/ES 14. However, I also chrono'd 42.5 grs & 43.0 grs of H4831SC and was pleasantly surprised; 42.5 went 2754/SD 6/ES 15. 43.0 went 2789/SD 4/ES 9. All loads used 140 Hybrids/CCI-450/COAL 2.775/Bartlein 1x8x28 inch. So far (not counting today) all my loads with H4831SC have shot in the .3's - not certain what they'll do at distance but I'm fairly confident I could use H4831SC should H4350/Varget become unavailable/too expensive.

For my use I didn't even consider it for two reasons. I want to run the upper node and would never get FPS out of H-1000 and running a light load of 1000 has never given me efficient clean burn.

I run a 28" 5R Bart 140 Hybrid also but COAL is 2.85 and I'm 200 fps past what you are getting with with stellar accuracy. The more coal i put to it the tighter the groups got. 6x's on brass and all is fine.

Wind stopped blowing for a little while so ran out to shoot my 6.5x47L w/42.5 H4831SC, CCI-450, 140 Hybrids. Shot at 100 & 550, just under 1/4 @100, 2.9" @550. Prolly gonna give up on H1000; H4831SC seems like it will work okay in a pinch!IMG_1544.jpgIMG_1543.jpg

Glad to hear H-4831sc is working for you.

Is 43 gr a fairly compressed load ??

I use H-4831 / H-4831sc in different cartridges and it's never failed to deliver exceptional accuracy.

42.5 seems to work the best - I'd say it's lightly compressed; can't feel or hear kernels getting crunched. Powder comes up about half way between shoulder & neck so there is some compression with 140's.

I was just curious to see if it would work is all, my go-to load is 40.5 H4350, I primarily use H4831SC in my 260 so I've got a bunch of it on hand. At least I know I can use it should H4350, or Varget, become difficult/expensive to find.

I haven't tried H1k in my 6.5 Creed, but I'm running Reloder 26 with 142 SMK's and 147 ELDm's. My my what a lovely powder for the heavies. Speed and no overpressure signs on anything.

I definitely wouldn't be opposed to H1k with the heavy bullets. Sierra has data in their book. You may not get the velocity, but maybe the SD/ES could be appetizing and combined with the known temperature stability of H1000... could make for a good combo in a 26"+ barrel.

I’ve never loaded 6.5x47L but I did load 6x47L and 6mm Creedmoor. The 6x47L was probably the most finicky barrel I’ve ever loaded for, possibly only matched by a long throated 7WSM that I had years ago. The 6mm Creedmoor while not quite as forgiving as the 6.5mm variant was still super easy, even less picky than 243 has been for me which I also find pretty forgiving with H1000 and H4350.
