6-284 and 95gr SMK's

Anyone using 95gr SMK's in a 6-284. I have a Krieger 1:10 twist 26" bbl. Have tried H1000 and Retumbo without much luck. Thanks for any help.
John

I did some testing this weekend--I got good groups with both h-1000 and retumbo with the 95 bergers--I think you need a tighter twist---mine is an 8 tw

John Myers, Is it just that the SMKs won't group or is it that they don't stabilize ? I have 12 twists in mine and they will stabilize a 95 NP or Horn. SPs BUT not a Boattail @ 95grs. I usually use 88gr Bergers 87gr. V-Maxes. A 10 twist SHOULD (every barrel is different tho) stabilize a 95 SMK.

The Miller formula shows a 95 SMK as marginal in a 9" twist. That aligns with my experience in 6mm Remington. A twist 8.5" or tighter would be safer. They shoot extemely well in 6BR and 6mm Remington in 8" twists.

I have a 10-twist Hart chambered in 6x284. I shoot 105 A-Maxes in it. I don't see a problem with a 95. I can get the A-Maxes to 3,400 FPS, but they shoot much better at 3,200.

I also have a 10 twist HART and would be interested in approximately where to start and what powder to try. Thanks

Best I have done so far is a little under an inch for 5 shots at 100yds using H4831sc. Not stellar but minute of coyote. I have yet to try other powders. I am using a 26" 10twist barrel. Of course after I bought the bullets I saw the box is marked for 9 twist or faster. Oh well.

I shoot Berger 95 Vld's out of a Cooper 1-10" using H4350, I imagine it's at the limit for stabilization but it doesn't keyhole at 400yds. It will actually shoot that weight better than any of the 70-87gr pills I've tried.

In my experience with the 6x284 win. I shoot the 107 smk. and 95 berger both are very accurate at long range. In my old Douglas barrel and 1-10 tw. shot the 95 Nosler Bal.Tips just fine as well the 105 A max. My accuracy load in my Krieger 1-9 tw. is 115 Berger VLD.I use RL25,53.5 gr. Mv is 3100 fps. The 95 Berger Vld is also very accurate way out there. With that bullet I use a powder that is about like Accurate 3100 but is no longer made by them. If you can find it ,AA MRP. I would think any powder with a similar burn rate would work well.
Good shooting.
