H&S stock

They are a bit of an odd stock.

If you're looking for an actual Hunter/HBR legal stock, they have to be a 2.25" fore end. The HS stocks are closer to 2.5" The HS stocks are also heavy...makes making the 10 lb. Hunter/HBR weight limit an issue since the barrel is where you'll need to compromise.

But if none of that applies, they are good, solid stocks. The aluminum bedding block in them needs to be bedded just like a normal pillar bedding job.

Hope this helps. -Al

Al, I really am just thinking about building a 6BR or a 243 Win to mess with on the range and maybe take groundhog hunting on occasion. I originally wanted a laminated stock with a 3" flat fore end (Tooley MBR type), but the ones I see are bigger bucks. With a stock Remington 700 action, it wouldn't be a very competitive rig, so I'm trying to keep cost down as much as possible.
It looks like they have a pebbly finish, which I'd probably sand smooth, at least where it rides on the bags, and shoot some clear on it. I'm guessing that would work.

The laminates can really make up into a nice looking rig. Make sure to check out the weight when you find one you like. By the time they get a bedding block in there and a recoil pad, you can end up with a chunk of lumber that's pushing 4 lbs. That's not bad...just make sure it fits with how you want your project to end up.

Good shootin' -Al

You have a PM.

Curious why HS is communist LOL
The owner (since passed) was buddies with lon horiuchi who was the sniper at ruby ridge and waco, who posed for pictures on the ashes and bones of children still smoldering. Once the trial was over and one bill barr let him off he became the poster boy for HS and taught sniper classes for them. HS was unapologetic about the whole thing and thus got boycotted by the more informed public. I once read Lon is hiding away in hawaii now after a bit of plastic surgery.

I can see your point, Dusty. I remember discussion of that some time back. I don’t know myself how deep I can afford to look, though. All our comp stocks, actions, and barrels come from just a handful of companies. Our mainstay bullets, powder and brass come from even fewer. Viable scopes and triggers, fewer still.

At 51 this month, I think their stocks coincided with my off the shelf buying age like Star Wars hit me, in ‘77. There was a chunk of my life where I was pretty convinced a Sendero, and then the three screw LRPV, both with a Harris S and Leupold, were capable of anything that needed to be done with a rifle. It’s still impossible for me to see how a metal chassis is as good as a stock. I’m imprinted, I guess. Sure don’t like that unseemly alliance, though.

Its called doubling down on a friend. Thats cool and all, but when it comes to a company you have to leave controversy out. The go woke, go broke mentality of today’s companies is about the same thing. When i see a yeti sticker on a truck with a trump sticker and some hunting stickers i just laugh too. Nobody knows how to do a proper boycott anymore and they forget real quick.

Ok that talks me out of that. Now for the next question....Opinions on Richard's micro-fit stocks. They have a laminated, 99% inlet, benchrest, and of course it needs sanding and finishing which I don't have a problem with. Are they worth buying?

I had no idea, thanks

Richards microfit call it 99% most folks call about 50%. It will take a bunch of work. Stockys has a huge selection of finished stocks. Surely theres something there. Like i said the bell and carlson is exactly the same as the HS usually for cheaper money

For a very brief second, I had a thought, to buy a McMillian MBR. So, I went to their site. They must have fell and bumped their heads.o_O
I think this whole industry has lost their minds. Either that, or they all changed their political affiliation......same thing I guess.

Mcmillan was bought out. Its a corporation style joint now. AG composites or the stockys carbon fiber are good stocks for the money and can be had fast
