25AI260, This may further add to your understanding. H-S Precision is the name of this company. It was originally Atkinson Gun Company and bought out by Tom Houghton. He move the company from Arizona to South Dakota. His Son, Tom Jr. is the operator (owner?) in its present form. The Company made its name in Barrel making, and developed those unique stocks that have an Aluminum core chassis. Their Barrels are outstanding, however they are probably the most expensive blanks available. They are, as I understand, the hardest in the industry. They use the proprietary 10X rifling form that has radii at the root of each land. Hope this sheds some light on your question? Greg

the actual reason for the question - i listed 4/sale as: hs s/a rem stock alum bed'd
three posible buyers ask more questions then i could answer.. i just gave up on them.. i don't know who's loss mine or theirs

the stock is a rem off a rem... so when asked what kind of stock is it how would you answer jonbearman ?

Its just an after market stock company, like McMillan, Robertson, Manners, etc. The Remington part means that its inletted for a rem. action

H-S Precision is an OEM stock supplier to Remington for certain models.

Lelongcarabine is correct about their barrels. I've had two, one in .300 Win Mag and the other 6mm Remington. The 6mm barrel went 1100 rounds of ~4000 fps 58 V-Max molys before it gave up. That is actually pretty good performance and about 200 rounds better than either a Hart or Shilen.

H-S doesn’t do a lot of advertising or sponsoring. To my limited knowledge, the impression I have is that very much of the company’s time has been almost commandeered, you might say, to fulfilling government contracts.




This is my favorite stock of theirs. This stock, bottom metal and magazine was made by H-S. A long action version of it was the M-24, a quite renown sniper rifle.

I have a .338 LM Israeli-commissioned and certificated complete rifle, that they literally made every bit of, according to accompanying paperwork, action, barrel, stock, trigger, brake, DBM, screws.

Coincidentally, this action and scope below were also by companies that quietly produced under contract back in time, Stiller and US Optics.




Don’t take this out of context, - that is truly one impressive butt, if you had to pick just one to get behind to save your life, and these stocks are 100% all business.

A Properly "Bedded", H-S Stocked, Rifle ( with a Good Barrel ),.. WILL "Shoot" with, most anything, on the Planet ! Mine always holds POI, from Bitter Cold, Winter thru, the Heat of Summer, in Idaho !
They are usually, "Gobbled Up" quickly, when sold used, by People that KNOW,.. Stocks / rifles at, the "Right" Price !
