H-S PRECISION STOCK SWIVEL INSTALLATION HELP

Hi all

It‘s me again...

Had a Savage 12 LPR follow me home yesterday. It’s got an HS Precision stock with a single swivel stud in the forearm. What’s the best way to mount a second insert so I can install a picatinny rail?

Looking at their website description, it says that their stocks come with 2 studs mounted on the forearm. Is it possible that the second insert got covered with fiberglass during manufacturing?

Most likely yours was made before they included 2. The best way to mount it would be to make a pillar with a larger top on it, thread it to fit your swivel stud, and mount it to where the pillar almost comes thru but sits below the surface and the only hole on the outside is big enough for the threads on the swivel to go thru

I've done several of these installations. Be aware that on these HS stocks, some have the aluminum extending quite a ways forward (where you'd put a second stud) and some don't. Drill a small pilot hole where you want the second swivel to be and se if you're in any aluminum. If so, it's a drill, tap and done scenario.

If there not any aluminum there, I make up a 't' shaped pillar on the mini lathe and bed it into the forearm...larger diameter 'up', obviously. In the years before I had the small lathe, I used these pronged 't' nuts available from any hardware store. -Al

I was looking at this but I spoke with HS tech support and they said just to drill through the aluminum frame and tap it. This is how the front one is installed. Thickness of the aluminum is 3/16“-1/4”. Plenty of meat to drill and tap.
