H-4350 Available...$600 for 8lb.!

So are the cattle ranchers getting more for a steer on the hoof than they were 2 years ago, or is the price increase starting at the packing house or distribution?
1 thing I do know is it'll be a cold day in hell before I pay $30-$40 for a steak.

That price was probably on Gunbroker. Once the price goes up in the big box stores they will never come down. Just 2 years ago H4198 was going for roughly 192 at Powder Valley. Less than a month ago it was 240. just looked now and it jumped to 279. Do u think Powder Valley is going to lower that 279 price? If you think so I have a beautiful piece of oceanfront property in Iowa that I's sell to you dirt cheap. Have you looked at the price of 220 Russian brass? Not long ago it use the sell for roughly 100 bucks, now at PV it's 124.

Glad I do not shoot M14 types in competition any longer and no more 10K rounds a year. How many competitive rounds do you expect from a 14 barrel? My usual answer was 32 pounds of powder, which I sat aside for every new barrel.
 
Back in July Brownell‘s had H- 4350 I decided to go ahead and buy another 8 pound jug. Shipped to my door it was $321 and change and I probably looked like this guy when I agreed to buy it for that price. But looking back at it at $40 a pound by today’s standards that’s actually not too bad.Can’t imagine what I would look like if I agreed to that gun broker price of $1000 which I would never ever do.0EF8C927-0133-47AC-836E-753977300F7D.jpeg I guess like Clint Eastwood said “a man has to know his limitations“ I met my limitations at $40 a pound. I’m sure others have bigger limitations than I do.......

Earlier in the year, I picked up some powders at estate sales, for a touch over $200 for 8lb jugs.

Locally, a nearby shop (at a small club range) has had a handful of 1lb jugs of various powders that I've acquired, most for sub-$36/lb.

Online, via GunBroker and elsewhere, I've occasionally caught a deal in 1lb and 8lb jugs, during a brief period when buyers apparently were all stocked-up with their own inventories of such powder. Jumped on 'em whenever I could.

Don't think I've paid over $250/8lbs nor over $40/lb during this whole mess. But it takes far more effort than makes sense.

Can't say that primers have been that simple, nor as affordable. Dang things have been priced like gold and selling like hotcakes on GB and other auction sites, with apparently all the buyers the sellers need to keep the prices there. More power to them. I'll pass.
 
What is a product worth? Does it matter what you paid for it?
Something I teach all my new hires.
The sell price of an item should have absolutely no relevance to the price you paid for it.
The sell price, or the value of an item is only worth what a willing buyer and a willing seller agree on.
If I paid $100 for something that will only sell for $50, I made a bad purchase. I sell the product to free up cash to put into a more profitable item.
If I paid $100 for something and I can sell it for $1000, my price is $1000, and I buy more of it if I can.
Buy if you want, I am only going to buy if I NEED it. If everyone did the same, prices would come down and stay down. Wholesale prices have not increased at the same rate as retail.
 
Pure Greed and Fear is driving a lot of the market. Cooler heads will prevail.

Primers I fear is going to be the worst problem to over come in this shortage.

The ranchers are NOT enjoying the benefits of mega-high beef prices; all that big $$$ is going to someone else, at least not here in S. Oklahoma.

The last time I bought powder was on Gunbroker and I got a smokin deal back on 10-16-2017. This guy had an 8ld jug of H4198 for a buy now of $144.00. When I called him up I asked him do you have anymore. He said let me walk back in the warehouse and look. He came back 15 minutes later and said I have 11 more 8 pounders, all with the same lot number as the 1st one, I said I'll take them. He shipped them to me free shipping and no Haz-Mat. He also sold me 5 cases of BR4's for $156.00 a case delivered, 4 cases of CCI450's for 156.00 delivered, 5 cases of regular Fed 205's for 100 bucks a case delivered and 4 8 pound jugs of N135 for $150.00 a jug delivered. He sold his business to some new guy and the new guy didn't want to sell powder and primers. I wish I bought more stuff because he had about 125 cases of BR4's. and at least 30 cases of 205's. Hindsight is always great.
