H-4350 Available...$600 for 8lb.!

Many muzzleloaders were designed to shoot Blackhorn 209 which gives huge velocity gains and is much, much cleaner and not corrosive like other powders. When it came time for the season there was none available and a 10 oz bottle was going for ~$400 on gunbroker. I get about 40 shots from a bottle so add $40 tax and $25 shipping so about $11.65 per shot plus about $2 for a powerbelt ELR bullet.
Who would have thought muzzleloaders were a rich mans sport ?Bhorn.jpg

I have bought 6 one pounders in the last month For my pistols and rifles. Rifle powders are $24.99 a pound, pistol powders are $34.00. Those prices the original poster gave are just crazy.

For me to compete, I have to practice. Between the rising cost of travel and the cost of reloading components headed through the roof, shooting is turning into a luxury for me that is done at my local range instead of burning through a whole lot of rounds on any given day practicing and competing with in a few hours of the house just for kicks whenever I felt the urge...........I hope this trends in the other direction before my stuff runs out.

Regards
Rick

In the last year and a half, I've bought two pounds of pistol powder at Sportsman's Warehouse. Prices were normal retail. In July, I also bought 10 pounds of H335 from a forum member face to face at $30/lb. The H335 was a lifesaver as I was pretty much out of powder I use in .223. I am now out of standard small rifle primers but do have some SR magnums to keep me going. I refuse to pay what components are currently selling for on the secondary market. I've got enough components to keep me shooting for a while, I just may end up shooting some of my odd ball calibers a bit more. That said, I'm hopeful that this drought is coming to a close. As I see some powders and brass and projectiles locally, it makes me think things are starting to improve. Just need to start seeing more powder/primers available.

My lesson learned from this madness is that a 2-3 year supply of components is not sufficient for me. When supplies are available, I'll be more likely to try and set myself up with a 5-6 year supply. That'll be tough as storage space is an issue.
