Gurus

Who on this forum do you absolutely put your full faith in when your unsure or looking for help? This thread is NOT meant to bash anyone at all. There’s a lot of guys on here with a lot of different perspectives which is fine and interesting. But for a new guy like myself its really hard to weed through who is on point and who isn’t.

Spend some time here reading posts. You will find some who post more than others and are really knowledgable. I could name a couple but you would probably learn more on your own.

Lots of knowledgable folks on this forum, you just have to read through the post until your questions are answered

If, and I say IF, I was an agile, I would suggest rephrasing the question to read who you dont oit any faith in.

I think there are several disciplines very well represented on this forum. F-Open, F-T/R, HighPower, Benchrest, both long and short range, and PRS. I am sure there are others, however, these represent the bulk of the disciplines. In each of these disciplines, there are folks on here who are well equipped to answer your questions.

figure out what you WANT TO DO, then look for those that do the same.
some stuff crosses over, but not all.
read, filter, read again

MOST.... not all.... experts became experts by devoting all of their time to something very specific. You don’t want your lawyer pulling one of your teeth do you? And you sure don’t want your dentist defending you in court.

Not that one is any less intelligent than the other..... they just went different ways with their intelligence.

There are a lot of guys on here that know a lot about a lot. But wouldn’t be experts on any of it. However they can damn sure take care of themselves.

And your also gonna have some that type a lot just because...

Then there’s some that are too good to gobble.... wise wise guys that will just read....

You’re gonna have 6mm gurus that don’t want to take a beating shooting anything bigger, and they have the skill to shoot calibers with a little more finesse to get the job done. So that’s what they do

You’re gonna have 7mm guys and .30 cal guys and 50bmg guys....

Then there’s the benchrest guys, the PRS guys, the wildcat guys, the speed guys, the accuracy guys, the hunters, and the reloading guru that has OCD worse than the rest.

The guys that can call their wind by watching the mirage, and trees, and dropping a few blades of grass that don’t know how to turn on a kestrel, but don’t care to learn....

On the other end the guys that set up portable weather stations when they shoot, and are tech savvy enough to get along with all that stuff....

My point.... if there was one guy we all turned to.... we would all be on his website.

This is a forum. You will find many many people that can guide you in any area you want to poke your head at.

With a little thought of your own you can weed through the ones that don’t have a clue. But guaranteed there’s someone here to help with anything you run across.

But it won’t be the same fella every time.

You can only lead a person to the water, you cannot make him drink it. We all have a different approach, but we all seek the same goal.
Not sure that is true. I have a half dozen rascals on the ignor list that offered nothing tested, real, or good for that matter.

I pay attention to what dmoran has to say when there is an interesting reloading question or problem. Just my $.02
Yes, I’ve read a bunch of his posts. He seems like a knowledgeable nice guy although I haven’t reached out to him. Alex Wheeler is another guy who’s threads are very interesting. I know there’s a bunch more out there though.

@Jalen
There are a few folks that cruse this site daily and try to offer everything they know. On the other hand there are “ignorant and arrogant” folks on here who have not yet learned what it is they do not know. It has been my experience that when the latter try to lead you astray the former will reel them in. It’s pretty fun watching actually.... you will see good data presented and discussed in a mostly civil invironment.

I have only been a member of this forum for a couple of years, the wealth of knowledge represented here is actually difficult for me to comprehend at times. I have learned, when a person is passionate about something, the effort they give that subject far greater than the sum of the time and energy they have spent learning about it. It is more about their attitude, curious nature, and aptitude to fully understand the information before them. There are some good folks on this forum who are very passionate about rifle accuracy!!

When you ask a question, the good guys will reach out to you and try to help. They have for me.
I hope this helps

My only foray into social media is gun forums. I only belong to two, one is cartridge specific and this one. My primary goals then, as now, were to learn from more experienced folks than I. Joining this forum was a guaranteed learning experience with some of the best folks I have ever spoken with. The other reason was pure entertainment. Some of the wit here is astounding. Read, read and read some more.
Learning here is just a matter of turning your computer on.

There is a good forum regulatory process going on here. You'll see that if someone asks a question, they'll get answers. Usually, if the answers are misleading or wrong, someone who knows better will chime in with the correct answer or a "more correct" answer. So the thread builds.
What you have to realize is lots of real experts are reading all these threads. If they see some bad advice, they won't let it stand. If a bit of advice is not contested, it's usually good advice.
The problem for a "newby " is learning how to filter the advice. Sometimes it's like listening to a bunch of NASA scientists planning a moon shot. Lots of weird theories and technical jargon. They are talking so far above my learning curve, I get a head ache. I read it anyway. Somewhere in those discussions is the truth. That's the real fun in this. Realize that there are a lot of "theories". If we had it all figured out, there would be a simple list of what to do printed out and everybody would be shooting one hole groups.
If you read, experiment and shoot enough, you'll learn a lot and be shooting with the best of them. Then you'll hit a wall. The wall of trade secrets! Remember that the best shooters here compete against each other. I think they'll keep certain "tricks" to themselves to maintain their edge!;)
