Gunsmith Recommendations

Good Morning Guys, I have a heavy stainless 24" AR barrel with flutes chambered in the 204 ruger, and would like Recommendations for a Smith to rechamber to the 20 Practical, thanks

Can't do it without setting the barrel extension back a fair amount so the chamber cleans up, having to re-time to align the gas port to TDC and then a new gas tube will need to be fabricated for the odd length of gas port to receiver face/carrier key. It'd be a bit of a PITA but it can be done if you want to re-use the existing barrel. Easier would be to turn a new barrel from a blank as mentioned by Dave.

Looking at the dimensions it's probably can't be done irregardless of how it's configured.

Yes, 'clean up' may include cutting the majority of the chamber off. If it's a true 'heavy barrel' meaning 1" straight, you cut back enough for a mid-length gas tube and make an 18" barrel, but your port pressure would be out of whack and you would want to use an adjustable gas block to throttle it down. Really better off selling the barrel and getting what you want!

You don't mention the # of rounds on your 204 Ruger barrel. But you would be money ahead to sell your barrel and buy a new barrel chambered in 20P.

I ordered a 20 practical AR barrel to swap out a cheap 223 barrel on my last assembly project(quick throw together when my first suppressor stamp arrived and had nothing threaded). I been watching auctions and I can buy upper parts so cheap, not going to bother swapping barrels. Barrel was 30% off sale Colombia river arms.

I wish I still had my 20P barrel, but fell on hard times and it wasn't getting shot much. Plan to do another one, eventually! Great round.
