Guns etc you wish you NEVER bought

After owning several Anschutz rifles, I had one in 17 HMR that I just couldn't bring myself to use as a truck gun. So I bought a CZ-455 in 17 HMR to use on my annual prairie dog hunt for the closer shots. First time I took it to the range, this is the target (100m).

I couldn't even tell which target the shots were on. Well that isn't going to work on head shots for prairie dogs. So I ordered a new Lilja barrel, slid out the CZ and slid in the Lilja. First 5 shots on target at 100m with the Lilja barrel:

Then I replaced the trigger in the CZ with a Timney, bought 2 different stocks for it. Wound up with more in it than I paid for my Anschutz 17 HMR.
“I can fix that myself. It can’t cost too much”. I’ve gone down that rabbit hole before.

I was at the LGS a couple of years ago and noticed that they had one of the last Remington PCRs in .260. Remington had folded a couple of months before and it was priced very low. I thought "It's a 700, what could go wrong that I can't fix out of the spare parts drawers?".
I have tried everything. I replaced the stunningly bad trigger. I bedded it. I took it down to nothing and built it back. The bolt has been bushed, the action trued and blueprinted, the barrel was set back 0.025 and the chamber cleaned up with a new reamer. And on and on and on.
I have tried H4350, StaBall, H4985SC, VV550, VV555, VV160, IMR4350, and I have never had a group less than an inch with Berger 140 hybrid and VLD, Lapua 139s, and Barnes MB 140 and 145. I am at my wit's ends with this rifle.
I may buy another barrel and fix all of these problems, I couldn't sell it and sleep well at night.

No joke, I have a hi point carbine in my safe right now. Also, a mini 14 and SW SD9. The SD9 was nice minus the fact you needed a 350lb bench max to pull the trigger. No amount of shooting fundamentals was going to help you with that trigger pull.

TIKKA T3 light 22-250. POS. Wouldn't group. Would group, wouldn't group most of the time, Factory ammo, handloads a buncha different handloads. New precision stock, etc etc.
Sold it.

1st place. SIG mosquito. Absolute POS, nick named the "Jam-o-matic" Sold it also .. Buncha others that wouldn't shoot to my standards.

Henry 17 hmr, just not accurate enough, maybe 2-3 moa.
Model 70 fwt in 270 from the 80's. Also a 2 moa gun.

Too many cheap scopes to count. Leupold mark ar, was like looking through a glass of milk.
Probably lots of other stuff but I don't dwell on it long.
I have a Henry 22 mag.. Yeah, IF I can find a CZ 457 22 mag Varmint it's gone.

Bought a Remington Sendero in .300 Ultra, magazine box was bent so badly I couldn't get it to hold more than one round, I straightened it up and then it wouldn't feed anything at all. I bought the gun to shoot 200-230 grain bullets and it would not group anything over 180 grain at all, 180 grain Nosler or Sierra either one would shoot .5-.7" on a regular basis and occasionally slip into the .3's.

Last spring I bought a CZ Bobwhite 28 gauge, the lighter of the 2 trigger pulls was in the neighborhood of 12 pounds.

Not a gun, but a part. I had (still have) an 11-87. It was an entry gun used by local swat team, got it cheap. Wanted a bird barrel for a favorite past-time, shooting feral barn pigeons. Bought a 26 inch NIB barrel. Put it on, gun quit. Would shoot one, stop. Thinking it was the gun, I replaced recoil spring, blah blah. Finally by fixer-helper put HIS 11-87 barrel on and it shot fine. Hmmmm. Looked closely and found the "gas port ring-thingy" had been welded catywampus...barrel pointed to noon, gas port to 1202. It would mount, but would not function. Sooo...back to the gunshop. They brought me out three new ones. Looked over first two...they were mounted square. But they had no gas port hole. The third fit and worked. I called remington. Explained how I had driven two hours one way, twice to get this barrel and the piss poor quality, etc etc, could they help out. Gal said "Mr. F, we make thousands of barrels and sometimes we make mistakes" I told her I did too...I just don't sell mine.

This was about 2004. In 2007 my captain and his twin brother bought matching 700 270 WSM rifles. One shot great. The other shot once and the bolt stuck. A rubber mallet to the bolt revealed that the primer was blown, the case buggered, all kinds of chaos. Bore scope revealed that there simply was no leade. Freaking neck was rifled.

Remington did great by him...they sent him a used rifle that had been sent in for fixing. and a box of ammo. He had sent the gun in against our advice. We told him to document the issue, go to a dealer, work thru them, but he went right to Remington, even talked to one of the uppity guys. Sent it to them in Ilion. They refused to send a new gun, claiming his was "used". It was brand new when he bought it at the gunshop, in box.

Any wonder they went under?

I have had 2 similar experiences with Nightforce, I now shoot Sightrons and Vortex GEs......No problems, hold poi, are repeatable.
I had a bad NF Competition that I got a 1/2 price certificate for at a NE State match. Same story. Went for service, came back "nothing wrong" but the test targets said they worked on it. Sold it and got a March. I have since purchased a 12-42 BR since I had one of those previously.

Hands down, my worst rifle purchases have been Kimbers. I had two Oregon rifles and one from Yonkers. Their customer service is non-existent with an attitude. I do have a couple 1911's of theirs that I like but will never consider one of their rifles again.
