Gun safe thread

Once upon a time I saw a catalog with an interesting gun safe. It was a steel drum that had a small safe head on the top and a lazy-susan type rack inside. You would bury this thing under the house when you poured the slab, with the safe head level with the floor. The safe head would be hidden under carpet. With the door/hatch open you could access the rifles one-at-a-time, rotating the turntable to bring the next rifle into view. I thought it was an interesting concept, although not without issues.
  1. You need to pull the rifle muzzle first toward you to remove from the safe. "Unloaded" or not, it's not a practice that would be comfortable for me.
  2. How you could ever fix a problem with the turntable or if a rifle fell over, is beyond me.
  3. You want to make sure that the safe head was completely water-proof in case of a water leak somewhere in the house.
Still, having the advantage of a small, thick safe head as the only point of access seemed appealing to me. I never bought the safe as it's something you'd have to install when you built the house.

I just want like a 100gun. I dont want a safe room. I have no basement and my house is on a substantial slab. This safe will go in my garage like the others that wouldnt go into a house after the studs are in place
garage must be getting full- mabie sell your other safes and get some free pet pythons from florida- i understand they will give you all you want:D

Assuming someone wanted to build a vault, where is a good recomendation for a door? Building a house is in my near future plans and a vault would be awsome but on the other side safes can be moved.

Zanotti Armor. Take down safe, move pieces easily. Custom builds on interior. Mark Zanotti is a gun guy. His best salesman for 8 years got replaced in January 2017.

Search local classifieds. I picked up a modest sized TL30 for 5 cases of beer. I see them come up often enough near me. You might get lucky and find one free to nearly free. Problem is moving them.

Best gun safe I saw was a custom horizontal safe set in a island in a workshop. There was an internal steel grid, sort of like a wine rack, with "chambers" six feet long. Each rifle was inserted horizontally into steel box. Brick on all four sides. The thigh-level vault door was disguised by a brick facing. Point of the box structure -- even if you cut through the sides (how most safes are defeated), you would only get a couple rifles at the most.

When you walked into the shop you had no idea there was a gun safe in that island.

Yea, heavy gun safes and heavy equipment often can be had for free. You just have to be able to move them from difficult to access locations. My girlfriends dad has acquired many pieces of heavy equipment this way, he has is own semi tractor and low boy trailer. Another friend of mine "moved" a bank building at two in the morning down the highway to his place, only came across one oncoming car that had to pull off the road to let him by.

i guess youve got a little more hardware then i thought:) i especially like the recoiless er- rifle
Oh good god, man! I pulled those pics off the interweb. I would never own that many semi autos and autos. Think of the reloading!

Did he ever get caught?

I should clarify, it was no longer being used by the bank. They wanted it gone and it was his if he could move it. It was just a small building about 20ft. wide by 40ft. long. Him and his wife did the middle of the night transport hoping to avoid any other traffic on the road. Loaded it on his gooseneck trailer and pulled it behind his Dodge Ram Cummins. It was several feet longer and wider than the trailer.

Im in the market for another large gun safe. Currently i have a small cannon, bigger liberty and a pentagon you can walk into that doubles as a tornado rated storm shelter. This safe is of course too big and ive had to move it twice which requires a forklift and rollback wrecker and garage door removal. I want the best made in usa custom built type safe- no time for the drywall stacks hoping itll make it thru a fire.
Rouge safe from Medford, Oregon. They have safes from other manufactures on the floor which they demonstrate how easy it is to get in to them. They are the real thing,I hear nothing but good reports from the owners. I was told by a friend of mine that owns one of them that there is only one guy on the planet that can get into it, I think he said the guy was from Australia. Beautiful safes to say the least, I no they are a long ways from you ,big expense . Just my 2cents
