Gun confiscation in LA today.

I wouldn't get too upset over that. Just going by the information that we have, it was a criminal enterprise. Who cares how they piled up the guns. This isn't about some decent citizen who used a gun to defend himself.
I'm with you, doe's not appear to be your everyday law abiding citizen or firearm collector .

@Mark W

Benchmade was doing a service free of charge for the local PD. Law enforcement must pay out of department budgets to destroy old evidence. Most of the time, it has to be done by a third party for accountability reasons.

They probably keep the best stuff, no? What about all of the old ammo? Does it get sold at a "police" auction?

There's nothing in any of the news stories to corroborate this.

The KTLA story says a man was arrested on suspicion of distributing, transporting, importing, selling or lending an assault rifle.

I think that stuff is only illegal in Kalifornia.

There wouldnt be anything in the initial story. It will take lots of man hrs to run an NCIC search on each piece to prove or disprove my theory. LDS

Did you see all the rifle boxes? Looks like a good truck load of rifles were brand new! They should hold a lottery for tax paying law abiding citizens.

It is interesting to me how many people try and convict a person based on the "facts" that the news media disseminates. I guess I am still under the misguided notion that one is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Don't get me wrong, if he was doing something illegal he deserves what he may get, but if not I just hate seeing someone drug through the wringer just to get more headlines or to promote a twisted agenda. The lib's are no doubt foaming at the mouth that a citizen could have "an arsenal of thousands of guns..."

Here's something from one of the media outlets:

"Authorities served the search warrant early Wednesday after receiving a tip that someone was manufacturing and selling weapons out of the home."

I built a couple ARs late last year and a Savage bolt action this year. So I have technically manufactured weapons. I didn't sell them. I might grow tired of them and sell them eventually. Am I going to be crucified by the main stream media and found guilty in the court of social justice and internet opinion?

I honestly hope I am wrong about this, but something smells.

As for getting these guns sold at a police auction, sorry, but LAPD policy is to destroy seized firearms regardless of collectibility. Unless a museum wants them and they must have historic or rare value, these are going into a furnace.

So you don't need an FFL to sell guns out of your house in other states? I guess I should move. --Jerry

I was talking about the ammo. I think PDs, etc. keep what they can use.

Up until a few years ago, we Oregonians could legally buy and sell guns among each other with no paperwork involved. Now transfer must be done through a FFL holder -- if we want to be legal.

Most states out west can still do face to face sales and trades with no records kept. California was the same I believe not too long ago.

As far as the quantity of guns that this guy had, who among us can point a finger and call him wrong or crazy. I'll bet I'm not the only one here who can't say with certainty just how many firearms I own; and I don't think that I have an excessive amount. I know a few guys who probably have at least a hundred, and they're not insane, or criminals.

I know guys who have what seems to me, a ridiculous number of motorcycles, fishing poles, tools, cars, golf clubs, --- you name it.

Fact is, we are in a new age concerning our guns and gun rights. Sadly many of us are going to have to decide if we are going to comply with whatever new and restrictive laws might get passed in the state in which we live.

We aren't that far away from the time when this same kind of incident will occur with a far lessor quantity of firearms, and the PR will be pretty much the same. And there will be plenty of people out there with the opinion of "Who in their right mind needs twenty five guns, and thousands of rounds of ammo!!??"

From TMZ:
"Pursuant to an anonymous tip ATF and LAPD became aware of an individual conducting illegal firearms transactions outside the scope of the federal firearm license that the individual possesses."

So he has some kind of FFL.

Found this on another site:

"... was arrested on suspicion of violating California’s law regarding assault weapons and .50-caliber Browning machine guns."

Not going to post his name. Whatever he did, it's only illegal in Kalifornia.

I would not be surprised if a lot of the "good" stuff doesn't grow legs and walk away.

So now, with no provocation, you are accusing law enforcement officers of theft. AS a retired law enforcement officer, with 32 years service, I take this very personally.

Just as all gun owners are not "Gun Nuts," all law enforcement officers are not "thieves."

Both you and the person you quoted, have just given every cop on this forum a slap in the face. Shame on you both!!!!
