GRS Kelbly X Eater stock suitable for F-T/R?

I am considering the subject stock for a new F-T/R rifle build, and wondered if anyone has any experience with theses stocks, and would they be suitable for a bipod (F-TR)?

Alex, you might check on the weight of the stock and then figure up what the rest of the components you are going to use will weigh. You should be fine with a 30" heavy palma barrel as long as you don't switch to a heavier bipod or scope.

Ben I actually saw one at the 1000yd match this past weekend at Bayou Rifles. It was blue. It looks even nicer in person and the hardware was very high quality, as was the fit and finish.

Nando: wouldn't see why it wouldn't work for F-TR, you just need the front rail installed. The bottom of the stock is parallel with the foreend so it'd probably work best with something like a Joy-Pod where it's easy to adjust elevation.

Also note that the one I saw had the pistol grip offset slightly to the side, like many thumbhole stocks I've seen without the actual thumbhole. You can't really see that in the picture above or in the pictures in this Daily Bulletin post.
 
NHM16, I believe the one(s) you saw at the match were the P.R.&T. "Low-Boys" ... Ray Weaver and Brian Schneider have the "Electric Blue" ones>> I have one too BUT it does not have the metal butt-plate hardware.. But they are all so close in resemblance it is difficult to tell one from the other>>> They are works of beauty!

I have two Low Boys myself. It wasn't a Low Boy. You're right, there are so many Low Boys used in F-Open that you can spot one a mile away. It was a GRS X-Eater, I spoke to it's owner (forgot his name). The stock had a very distinctive offset pistol grip (the first thing I noticed), as well as pushbuttons for the cheekpiece and the buttplate (in-out and up-down). It was completely adjustable without a hex wrench.

EDIT: it may have in fact been set up as an F-TR gun. My memory is a little hazy on that.

WOW! I would have loved to have seen that one! Everything Kelbly does is Cadillac! They are not just "riflesmiths", they are rifle artists! They are excellent people to do business with too!
 
I love my GRS stock! If I recall they are 4.2 pounds milled for the fclass action. Push button adjustable everything! If I bought another stock today, I would order the same thing. i wanted something different and very happy I did!

I am sorry Johnny! In passing I thought it was a P.R.&T. "low-boy".. You will have to get with me next time so I can "inspect" that masterpiece!!

OK, I guess I'll go for it!

Ryan, good point. I added the weight of the components as I now have, and the total is just over 16 lb, so I should (hope) be OK. I have a SEB Joypod on order, and it is close to the same weight (within a few ounces) as the Duplin bipod I am now using.

I just read your post and question from almost three months ago - sorry 'bout that!

I will start this season with my ~year-old Savage 12 F-T/R, but as soon as the new rifle (GRS X-Eater stock, Panda action, Krieger barrel . . .) is ready, I plan to use it instead. My wife 'may' use the Savage . . . we'll see.

That sounds awesome. I was able to handle an X-eater in December and it was a very nice stock. Should I move away from the Eliseo, it would be one of my first considerations.

Good luck with the new build, I look forward to seeing it.

Anyone shooting one of these off a bench with minimal contact? How does it track? It seems flexible enough to do well prone or benched, but would like some 1st hand input.
