Groundhog Hunting Partners

I lost a good friend and groundhog hunting partner yesterday. When you go out this spring with your friends or family into the field, really enjoy it. You never know when that last hunt will take place. Just a thought. Good Shooting, JZ

where do you live. I'm just South of Cleveland. Usually hunt GH in Holmes, Coshocton, Knox and Harrison Co.

Sorry for your loss.
I had the same thing happen to me back in 2000 the only difference is we were 30 years old and my best friend drown in the river fishing. We had gone groundhog hunting on Sat. and we were to go fishing on Sun. but at the last minute I couldn't make it. He went with the others that were going and never came home. That was a really hard pill to swallow. Still miss that sob. You just never know when that last hunt will take place.

brings a tear to my eye to contemplate.

my bud and i were the terror of the chucks in knox and holmes county in the '70s.

when he passed i left his ashes over an elk in the mountains.

I'm about 30 minutes NW of Columbus in Union County.

Sorry for your loss.

Around the 90s I lost my hunting partner because his family was getting bigger. Now he lives in a wheelchair. He still collects guns but cannot get out to shoot or hunt. Today I'm taking my paint ball gun to his house so he can shoot off his back porch. His sons and grand son should get some shooting time.

My cousin and I are heading to Wyo in June for a PD shoot. His dad, my uncle will surely be gone from cancer by then, and my dad, his uncle, with dementia, is a shell of what he used to be. I am sure this will be therapy for both of us.

I understand fully. Used to be part of a dangerous 2 man team that was rough on hogs. Am retired now and hunting mostly by myself now. It is difficult and not ideal but I am still loving it. What most people fail to understand is that you not only seek a buddy, but someone at your level of capability and equipment, making it much harder to find a compatible new partner.

Yeah it is difficult to find a partner who will lower himself to my level. jd

This brings up a question that has been bugging me. How many of you are content at your current level as Groundhog hunters? How many are actively planning and making it happen to move UP in lethality?

I spent many years hunting those areas with friends. There was some great hunting, better then what I have now.

True that we lose our friends along the way.

I track sex, weight, location of burrow, moon phase, time of day, weather conditions and barometric pressure. I have walked within spitting range and been busted at half a mile. I'm never "content".

Sorry for your loss. I feel your pain. Tomorrow, (June 12th) my shooting and metal detecting partner passed away. But, I have a ton of memories...I still miss my brother everyday.
