Grip cap help

When I got this Mauser, the grip cap was in a sorry state. It also was not really a grip cap. It was really just a couple pieces of shriveled up plastic. I have searched around and can’t quite find something that fits the grip measurements. 2”x1 3/8”
All of the caps I find are too small. Do you guys know of anywhere I could find a cap to fit? Or maybe have a creative solution? I would rather not taper the grip to fit a smaller cap. There isn’t a lot of real estate between the checkering and the end of the grip.

I’ve been doing the google thing for days
I'm pretty sure the one I posted will fit, Your ruler is offset a little bit in your pics, But I think the steel grip cap from NECG will fit.

Your stock is probably a Bishop or Fajen stock, When I get home I will look in my parts bins and see if I have one. I won't be home until Thursday.

I found a buffalo horn cap on ebay, it’s pretty close in size. E7067272-D014-432B-BFD9-F0E7A4988ED4.jpeg

I could probably make it work. I would really prefer a steel cap that can be blued to go with the rest of the steel on the gun.

According to the pics with a caliper, that horn grip cap will be small, leaving edges. I'd rather have one slightly too big, and work it down to size. There will likely be no "drop on" grip cap for that stock.

When fitting grip caps, the standard method is to start with a slightly oversized piece of material and work it down to an exact fit.

Material selection is most commonly the horn grip cap material on the older, classic stocks. These were then matched to the horn butt plate as well. I even have one older stock with a horn forend tip...

Most common though is the ebony grip cap. The drawback here is the quality of the ebony on the firearms market today. You will look far and wide for the classic deep black ebony as found on older stocks. There is a limit to what we can get now as far as quality is concerned.

Not the best but still a sample. Not yet finished:
