Great way to spend 3hrs

I always wished I could get kids involved when I hunted rabbits. I had one guy near my age who took it on and hunted hard a few years, but he quit. My dog got old, I couldn't hunt and keep a job and four kids too, so I had to cut back. Rabbit hunting went by the wayside. I so wish I could get back into it, but now live in an area where all the rabbits are gone due to housing. I rarely see one anymore.

I would happily tag along and help guide someday with ya! But I think my legs are not up to it anymore. Not yet 60 and I am weak as a kitten sometimes.

Beautiful dogs. Just perfect. They remind me of my Snert. She was a gem.

Your welcome to join in anytime. I’m in Mystic Ct. it takes a lot of effort these days to have a place to hunt in my area. Lots of houses going up and a lot of people against hunting the poor bunnies with mean dogs. Just ignorance!!! But so far still able to make it work!!

I love Mystic. My bride grew up in Norwich and her sister still lives the area. She was a Norwich Free academy kid. I stole her away. I would never have guessed that Mystic area would have bunny land. If I ever get out there in the fall or winter, I will give you a ring. I'd love to just walk along.

I had posted earlier in this thread about how much I enjoyed seeing that hunting picture. I’ve had a beagle since I was 13 or 14. They have all been hunters and all lived outside of the house. I don’t hunt bunnies anymore but it just would not seem right to go through the rest of life without a beagle. This guy is fortunate in the fact that he gets to live in the house with me hence the leash. He comes from hunting stock and I’m sure he would be a good rabbit chaser. I know every time when we are on our walks when he sees a rabbit he goes berserk. But after seeing these pictures of you guys with your beagles and bunnies it sure does bring back the memories and the desire to go out and do it again.

Yokosuka? When on R&R from RVN, we spent a lot of time in the Naval Exchange thin Yokosuka, buying up all the goodies we could to bring home. I still have a complete component stereo set purchased there in 1966 that now is my garage entertainment. I even bought a new Honda 250cc Scrambler (remember those?) there, even rode it while out at sea down in the cargo hold. Imagine if you will being out in the open Pacific trying to ride a bike while the ship is pitching and rolling in the ocean on our way back to The World. Fun times they were, now fading in memory.

But to stay OT, I must say the wood on that Western Field 20ga SXS rivals some of the wood on very expensive guns sold these days. That was pure luck, as WF guns were contract guns that usually did not have wood anything like your example has. Nice!

And your hounds.....as my dad used to say: "Dogs aren't my whole life, but they make my life whole". I can't imagine life without my girls.

Well full disclosure I built that stock to fit me. I’m 6’5” 300lbs so off the shelf stocks don’t work for me so I picked out that blank and went with it. My girls are family you have to be quick in my house after dinner or you don’t get a seat!!!

A beagle and a brace of birds...a peep sighted Stevens and a rack of fox squirrels, beagles and bunnies, groundhogs in a stack with a nice varmint rifle, crows on the snow, a 410 and a nice ruffed grouse....you get what I am saying?

I miss ruffed grouse hunting, it was a passion for me for a long time. Brittany and a Llewellin setter were my babies. Our national forests in NC are wildlife desserts now. No thickets, no planted fields.I miss it.
OP I love your well behaved dogs, I love my to Jack Russell's but they are A-holes at times.

Used to have 6 and loved taking them out with my kids. To me, there is nothing prettier than the sound of Beagles on a hot rabbit trail. Where I used to live, I could let them out in the evening and put them up in the morning. They’d sing me to sleep.

What a nice time I had with my girls. Of course I missed the first 2 but redeemed myself on the next three. Last day of the small game season here in Ct. So after that I had just enough time to clean up my girls and clean 3 rabbits then off to work. So now we can have rabbit stew on Sunday with the gang in the garage always a good time and plenty of stories. I should also mention that it’s always a good day when my grandfather is with me in spirit. That’s his side bye side 20ga that I restored.

Fine looking pups you've got there. Mighty fine. Brings back a lot of memories from a much simpler time.
Do watch the coyotes though. Fellow I know in central Ohio lost two of his three pups in the same evening.

Same here on USFS in SW Virginia. Just another tax-payer funded money pit and weekend playground for the yuppy urbanites.
