Great little knife sharpener

I bought one of these to try. I’ve been using it for a month and I finally have my wife smiling about her kitchen knives. I must have tried 5 or six different varieties and my wet stones. This one works! They go for $9-10 at several stores and Amazon. Watch out for Optics Planet! They want $113!!!

I feel like a dinosaur. The only thing I can get an acceptable edge with across the wide range of knives I sharpen is with a variety of oil stones. I've got a Lansky and I wasn't happy with the results. Glad others are able to use more modern tools.
I used the carbide sharpeners because I can not keep my wife from tossing out knives into the silverware rack while washing them. They get banged around and dull quickly that way. So I don’t waste my time with may stones. However my neighbor laughs because I sharpen my exacto knife blades on my stone. Lol

Carbide sharpener’s are very rough on blades and while they may be sharp it is not a very good edge on the plus side they are quick and easy

These are ceramic. I’m old and I gravitate more to quick and easy, these days. Besides, I can’t stop my wife from cutting things on plates and pans. I’ve given her multiple cutting boards to no avail.

I missed the ceramic part that may make a big difference I may have to try one

@joshb When you get back to God’s country you can buy the all-ceramic version at Academy Surplus for $5. They have another version that’s diamond and ceramic for $12. I’ve been using the cheap one for around 15 years now, except I bought 3-4 of them so I can find one when I need it.

About 30 years ago I came upon a set of ceramic crock sticks to add to my sharpening tools. Generally, I sharpen the blades using stones, a few swipes through the sticks, then a leather strap. I can shave with a blade when finished, and they hold an edge.

Years ago I could spend almost an entire day sharpening knives at the hunting camp for everyone.

A lot depends on one's standards for sharpness.

The pre-set angle sharpening tools can go only so far but that is enough give good cutting edge for an awful lot of chores.

Nonetheless, I am in the traditional camp of using a stone (well, they are diamond stones) and making sure the edge is really sharp. That way I have a safer blade and do more with my knife as a utllity tool.

Women are genetically inclined to ruin knives. After 50+ years mine finally learned to use the good sharp knives only on a cutting board, or better yet just get me to do it. Dulling the cheap Dexter Russell on a glass board requires more than a ceramic touchup and the carbide sharpener induces a serrated type of edge profile after several uses. Then a good old stone or diamond to refurbish the edge and start the process over. Action required is proportional to the damage done!
