great gunsmith

well, i took my new krieger 5R .236 bore and stiller predator single shot to my gunsmith this morning at about 9 AM. he just called about 15 minutes ago (4:30 PM) saying its done. it was originally going to be about a 2 week wait. now thats service--plus he does farming on the side. look into this guy--Jim Carstensen--he is mentioned on this sight for custom dies. his work is second to none.

i failed to mention that he was chambering, throating, threading, crowning, and mounting the barrel on my receiver

I dropped off my action and a down payment the week before Christmas to my local Smith and have heard nothing from him. He does great work and I know when I get it back I'll be happy with it. Just wish the process was a little faster.

I know your pain. Well over 2 months ago, my smith told me that all metal work was done and all we was waiting on was for the fiberglass stock to be polished and clear-coated. I was told that this process should take 30 days which still seemed long to me.....hell I have had entire cars painted in way less time. When the 30 days had passed, I called back and was told that it had just entered the paint shop the previous week so I assumed I now had another 3 weeks to wait. After this 3 weeks had passed, I called again. This time I was told that due to the cold weather, he hadn't been able to keep the paint shop at a minimum of 75 degrees to make sure the clear dried without a cloudy appearance. Now, I work for a Natural Gas company and know for a Fact that there are lots and lots of furnaces that will keep practically any size building at 75 degrees. I kick myself now and know that I should have not opted to have the stock done and just waited until warm weather and have a local auto body shop do this part of the work. I have no clue when I will recieve the much anticipated call stating that I can come and pick up my rifle. If this was my 2nd or 3rd or 10th benchrest rifle and I had others to play with while waiting, this wouldnt bother me so bad but this is my 1st ever custom gun and I have spent like a wildman for a very long time getting ready for this with all new brass, reloading components etc. To say that I am anxious is the understatement of the year.

I prefer my rifle, however, I have a few handguns. Does anyone know a good gunsmith around Little Rock Ar.? I bought a 9MM Cobra Deringer and it has a seriously tight trigger pull. Both hand and still can't pull trigger too good.

Glad to see I'm not the only one waiting on a rifle! I dropped off a savage 10fcp just to be pillared and glass bedded in Sept. My gunsmith like me is a hunter. He asked if I was in a hurry for the rifle. I said no because optics would not be available until Feb. due to funds and I liked to hunt as much as he does so go ahead and hunt. Told him there was no use for him to miss out on hunting just so I could pick up my rifle bring it home and it sit in the safe. I called him today and the rifle isn't done yet. Ok no big deal, but then he tells me it will be another 3 weeks or so! Man I'm ready to start shooting it already! I'm also working on a 6br build and wating on parts to arrive to take to the same smith. Man I hope I can get everything together before it gets to close to hunting season next fall. I would like to have the build done by late may! Guess I will be more careful about what I say to him in the future. I don't think I need to seek a new smith. He has been doing this for 50yr and is a very well respected smith. So I figured it would be best to play the waiting game and not piss him off! I hope one day I will become one of my smith's perfered costumers so that I can get things done a little faster!
