Great group at 300 yards with 223

So you had a consistent wind at (best guess) 10 to 15 MPH?
I ask because my shooting environment rarely provides reasonably stable wind. I get nothing, then 10 MPH gusts or a good 10 MPH wind and 25 MPH GUSTS! Then nothing and GUSTS!

Even at my range I get wind from multiple directions over the 300 yard range most days. Terraced farmland can produce challenges.

This particular day was about 8 mph left to right. Today was a whole different story. Best group today was 1.5”. Wind was all over the place

Damn evil wind monster! That's the same problem I was getting and in the field shooting overv terraced farm fields, crops and tree lines I have a hard time making the 223 work on chucks past 300 yards. I however went the other way using lighter bulletts at much faster velocities. I can keep them on a chuck head if I wait wait for the wind and the chuck cooperates.

Had a fantastic group at 300 yards today. My 223 with 80 grain VLDS in my 6:5 twist Kreiger bbl. less than 1”

I see noted on your target, winds calm with light rain. You couldn't ask for better shooting conditions, and a very impressive group! I always seem to shoot best, especially with my 223 on days like that, but I have yet to print such a small group. Kudos to you, and a reminder to post that sucker on the wall of your loading room, or maybe make it into a sign warning potential burglars and post it on the front lawn.

HOME PROTECTION PROVIDED BY SHARP SHOOTER. YOU CAN'T RUN FAST ENOUGH.

Shot this a few years ago Barnard,1/7 t HV Palma at 30.5,80.5 Bergers 24.7 Varget lapua brass
no wind

I bought quite a few of those Berger 80VLDs 20+yrs ago and tried to find a load with them that would shoot good enough at 600 out of my custom bbl'd AR15 SR uppers to use in XC HP matches. Finally stopped beating my head against the wall and went back to Sierra 80MKs, or JLK 80 & 90gr VLDs out of 6.5tw SR uppers. I'd set aside a few boxes of those old Berger 80s; have tried them out of bolt rifles a few times, but they're still stinkers as far as I'm concerned. Berger must've changed something for them to have shot a decent group for you at 300, but I'd still like to see how the lot you're using shoots at 600.

Have not tried it at 600 yet although I fully intend to.

Well, I've had great accuracy out of a large selection of other Bergers that I've shot in .204, .224, 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm & .308 diameters, but those 22 cal 80VLDs were just not worth a hoot in several custom barreled 223s & 223AIs, (ARs & bolt rifles) nor in a 22 Grendel with a Bartlein 1-6.8tw bbl. I bought the ones I have back in 1998 IIRC...
