52Gn ELD, CCI 400 primer, 21.4 Vihtavouri N133 powder.Good shooting...Would be nice to have a bit more info as to what bullet, powder, etc. was used.![]()
Exceptional group. Nice shooting. Please confirm your load is 21.4 gr. That's below VV's min load for 52 gr bullets. I've been loading 24.1 with 52 gr Bart's flatbase in my Tikka. Also seems to work with a custom gun for which I'm just beginning to work up a load.Great shooting! Can't get much better than that.
Just rechecked my load data, and it shows 21.4. Checked all my manuals and you are right as well. I've been loading for 2800 FPS and that was double checked and then triple checked on a Labradar and was very close to the 2800 I wanted. Most of the books start at about 3000 fps. though.Exceptional group. Nice shooting. Please confirm your load is 21.4 gr. That's below VV's min load for 52 gr bullets. How many clicks can it be anyway right? The whole purpose of this forum is 'accuracy' as I understood it. I'm not that sensitive, and he's right. ALL the books say I'm shooting them to light. But all the books are wrong this time.In my 223 I'm using 21.0 grains of RL-10X at 2950 fps. with 50 v-max... But that is where the accuracy is. I will go with
accuracy over speed every time. With good accuracy who cares if it takes a couple more clicks to hit your
target..

Dang! That's fabulous shooting! I have the same rifle and my best so far is 0.44, with most in the 0.5 — 0.75 range!
Guess I need to practice more! A lot more! And experiment more with components. And assemble them better!
Oh, woe is me! To have to reload and shoot more!
Was that a 5 shot or 3 shot group. I can't really tell from the target.

Thank you, and we are on the same page. I could go higher I guess, but I like the feel of the recoil, and it works. I may experiment with some various powders just to reassure myself. As for the expertise, I give all credit to the US Army where I instructed as a DI for 4 years. MY RF days in High School taught me the breathing disciplines needed (figure 8's and all that stuff). And then I can't forget the hours and hours of shooting just to pull it all together. In Vietnam we used to roll cans with our 16's from the hip. Just to see if it could be done....it can after 8-10 thousand rounds of practice.I won't tell you what you are doing is wrong because it works for you. I will say that you should find the same accuracy with a higher load, if you felt the need for more velocity. I, like you am more interested in accuracy (for hunting) than I am in velocity and I limit my shots to 200 yards so I have no need for a lot of velocity.
You have a great load, rifle and some level of expertise which combines to make for great shooting. Congratulations!
