Did not Bass Pro Shops (Great America) buy Cabela's and now they own Sportsman Warehouse ? This may not be too good a deal for the majority of hunter/shooters. They seem to favor fishing, etc.

Our local Cableas became quite a bit nicer after the Bass Pro deal. Much better selection of hunting clothing, the site looks nicer and they seem to have people working in there that sort of care to help a guy.

One wonders if Cabela's and Bass Pro are not headed down the path of Abercrombie & Fitch. Time was when Abercrombie & Fitch was an outfitter and sold fine firearms and fishing equipment. Today they sell skinny jeans, short T-shirts and nipple rings to likely lads living in their mothers basements. Walk into a Cabela's these days looking for reloading components or fine firearms, the gun library is nearly empty but there are lot's of shoes and cloths. High margin on those items.

I have ordered a few guns from the SW website. Decent prices, good selection, free shipping to the store. I go there a few times a year and buy hunting stuff I need.

Just another big box store. I've never seen so much imported stuff as a Cabela's. Some better clothing after Bass Pro took over. I don't go in those store often, but it seems they have the regular big box turn over in employees. I enjoy going into Scheel's store in Great Falls MT. Older people in the gun/ optical department that are very knowledgeable are appreciated.

They’re both open. That restaurant stays packed.

Here in Altoona, PA. Sprotsmans took over the old Field & Scream.
We in the area were hoping prices would come down and actually have things in the store that we wanted.
Alas that didn't happen.

Support your local mom & pop gunshops.
I can actually find what i'm looking for (usually) and it helps keep a local small business open.

What happened to regulations against monopolies? When did competition become a bad thing for consumers? Perhaps the explanation comes from the results of Nov. 3 where we are now forever destined to one party rule. Who would have thought a year ago that 2019 would be the pinnacle of the Republic.

Not good news for us. Seems to be a lot of these big box sporting clothes stores. A rational person mite wonder how many can survive, but I know the powder, primers, and bullets wont get cheaper or more abundant at them.

Bigger is very rarely better, government included. Long live my local gun store! I love your creaky floors and doors and smells of gun related items. I can feel the excitement in the walls of past men and women that have frequented you. I love overhearing them talking about their favorite calibers or deer stands. Priceless! I remember my science teacher from high school, Jack Murdoch had a little store in his basement. I knew I was privileged then to be able to go there but now that he has passed I really know how fortunate I have been. I personally never ever once got that feeling when going to a Cabela’s or bass pro shops etc. etc.

I live in the Houston area on the far NE side, far away from the one Cabelas and two Bass Pro stores. I’m a once a year regular shopper at the Cabelas in Mitchell SD, and so far I haven’t seen much difference in the gun section, shooting supplies, or gun library, but I have to admit I’m usually just after a non-resident hunting license and 3-4 boxes of number 5’s.
I did visit the Bass Pro in Katy TX a few months ago and there were almost no firearms at the gun counter. A salesman told me if I knew what I wanted they might have it in the back of the store. I think this was just a result of the recent firearm frenzy and not due to any store policy changes.
