government shutdown and gun sales

And that makes the government responsible fo their mess
I think Not
The mess is not the responsibility of the government, however, maintenance and upkeep of public property has been taken on by the government. The 'mess' is part of the deal. Law violators are the responsibility of law enforcement, provided law enforcement can identify the alleged criminals.

Well i just picked my son up a little something and the personal transaction i made had not a single cop or city/state/federal involvement. I am happy to keep it that way, and will take every step to keep them out of my business. I do accept that there are additional risks with this type of transaction but its not like i am going to deal with shady people.

My experience has been that the 'shady people' one REALLY needs to worry about are the most difficult ones to identify.

Then they should close it
Out country security is far more important then a little pleasure or inconvenience of a messy property

Yep. I have no problem with that and I think you are absolutely correct.

This is essentially why free access to nearly anything these days is so rare. No one wants to take responsibility for or maintain anything they do not have a vested interest in.
Used to be such behavior often resulted in 'public shaming'. But the Politically Correct movement has effectively ended that.

So it goes.

So the guy i dealt with was about a mile from my work, gave me his email and phone number, along with address. We met in a bank parking lot and is highly rated in the local arms group. I paid with a cashiers check so i basically could not be robbed per sei and was open about providing a bill of sale and a picture of his Drivers license. Seems like an easy to tell kind of situation.

If you are satisfied with the transaction then so be it.

Did you ask the seller if you could have the local Sheriff's department run the serial number before the purchase? More than once I've had people cease all communication with me after that very question.

I was not worried about that only because he provided an up close picture of the serial number in a text the day before. If he was worried i dont think he would have done that. I had considered that

Well then I applaud your approach. Too bad everyone is not as observant. Many future crimes could likely be prevented.

My local police will not run a serial number just for your pleasure. If they run it and its stolen they have to have it in their hands at that moment

Sheriff's department in the county I formerly lived in would do it. I've moved recently and I do not know if this county's Sheriff's department is as accommodating.
If not, I'm betting I could call my prior county and they would assist me if I asked nicely.

Ask them next time you call what happens when they type in a stolen ser no in the national database. Every law enforcement computer in the country knows its finally been found and who found it

This is true: If the serial number that is entered comes back as stolen, the item has to be available for impoundment by the dept. LDS

Sorry to burst your bubble but there are a ton of USCG guys and gals out there working hard to keep our waters safe and they are not getting paid! They are serving us and their country and have to show up to work everyday and are not getting paid.

I hate to burst your bubble but you're wrong - at least up to January. The original opinion was that the CG would not get paid for December, but then they said that they would be paid to Jan 15, no info has been published for after that.

Will Coast Guard members get paid on Dec. 31? Yes, the Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Coast Guard have identified a way to pay our military workforce on Dec. 31, 2018. This one-time action applies to military members that served on active duty in the month of December and those reserve military members that drilled prior to the lapse in appropriation.

And for any of you that think that you have no place to get financial help AND you are a member of the Navy Federal Credit Union, you can get a zero interest loan from them for as long as the shutdown lasts. They seem to be offering about a 50% payment of your normal pay, but if you are frugal that is a good thing since you have to pay the loans back and you don't want to be without any pay once the shutdown stops.

https://www.navyfederal.org/about/government-shutdown.php

  1. Enroll in the Government Shutdown Loan Program
Loan amounts are calculated based on the amount of the most recent direct deposit of pay made prior to the interruption of pay. Loans have a 0% APR and are available up to a maximum loan amount of $6,000. To determine the loan you're eligible for, use this chart for reference.
    • There are no fees or interest charges associated with this loan
    • No credit check is required
    • For loan proceeds to be available on your scheduled pay date, you must register by the day before
    • Navy Federal will continue to accept registration until three days after your scheduled pay day
  2. Receive Loan
    • Loans will only be available and disbursed only if, in connection with the government shutdown, the government fails to pay eligible members
  3. Repay Loan
    • Once direct deposit of pay resumes, the amount credited to your account(s) will be automatically deducted as repayment

Yes, I know. Which I presume is why more than one seller has broken off contact with me when I brought this up. I want nothing to do with a firearm that has been reported stolen. And if the seller is not certain of that, I want nothing to do with them, either.

Not starting a political pissing match but it's a fact that the USCG did not get their Jan 15th paycheck. So they are working without getting paid

I'm not listening to liberal propaganda just friends who are serving their country and not getting paid.

Blame the Democrat's for not negotiating! All they have to do is go get a short term loan. Or get Unemployment if there not working.
They will get there money when it's over.
