Now before I post this, I will say I have several fine varmint centerfire rifles. I have as of late, the last 3 years, been more and more drawn into the world of Rolling blocks, trapdoors, Hi walls and Sharp's. To say the least it is a ongoing addiction with no end in sight. I have always kept a few the last 40 years, but am up to 14 of the suckers now. I have a Husqvarna 1867 in 12.17x44R, that had been sporterized, that I got a couple of years ago. The sights were toast, so I silver soldered a blade on front, and fitted a Parker Hale peep, on the side of the receiver with the peep centered over the reciever, and it has turned out to be a vey accurate rifle, shooting 1/1/2" groups at 140 yds on my home range. Cut to chase, I saw a big old groundhog out from my barn, that I had been trying to get a shot on all summer. I took the Husky out, dropped a round loaded with a 500gr cast slug of my own making, took a rest against the post of the carport on my shop, centered the blade in the peep and on the middle of the big groundhog who was standing upright. At the shot, I saw various internal organs blow out on the offside of the whistle pig, and he in turn did 3 pinwheels before coming to rest in a very flat pile. In retrospect a 500gr slug might have been overkill, but dead is dead, and I have to say I loved the aerobatics. Just thought I would share.
