Growing up Hunting and Shooting Groundhogs was one of my favorite past times. When I graduate from college I moved east and there were less ground hogs to be found. They seemed to be coming back and then we got Coyotes and the groundhogs are a barometer to whether you have coyotes or not, they are a favorite food for the coyotes. Places I use to hunt are now barren to ground hogs.

My first GH gun was an old single shot .22 that was kept in a barn.... rusted, worn...you could insert a loaded case in the muzzle up to it's rim. Next was a .22 Mag Chuckster, then a .222, .22/250, 220 swift, .17 Rem.,221, and now it's down to a .17 HM2......but that kills 'em quicker than any other chambering....tails don't even wiggle.

To check holes for activity early in the season, put sticks across the holes. They might not be digging yet - just eating and "Courting".
