Good Oil Recommendation

I've been using butchs as my "storage" oil and really like it. I use is a lot on my 1911 but I also have grease on the rails but it seems to do well as a lubricating oil as well.

Hello! I am looking to change the brand of oil that I have been using forever. I am looking for something that lubricates, stays kind of in place (doesn't seep all around like Kroil, etc.), and does a good job.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Andy

Have you tried KY?

My first out loud laugh of the day... thank you!!

;) ;) ;)

I have been pretty satisfied with this: http://www.archoil.com/ar4000-gun-oil/
There is one dealer for firearms product here in WI. http://www.archoil.com/find-a-local-dealer/

Pretty hard to beat Mobile #1 in what ever weight you want for lube. Stands the heat way better than KY!

You asked the #1 most opinionated and argued question throughout the internet. "Which oil" sparks almost as much biased opinions and uninformed rage as politics.... ;) The XXX and YYY overpriced brands of oil at some point originated from all the same place.... the ground. I don't buy into the specialized flavor of the month pricey oils . I buy what has reliably worked for me for the past 30 years.
My rage driven opinion is Mobil 1 full syn . I buy 10W-30 by the 5 gallon bucket, as I use it universally in my Civic Si , my Harley , my aluminum storm door hinges , and last but not least all my firearms. It truly is awesome stuff and a great value in my situation...
Marvel Mystery Oil is another very versatile oil. A solid plug as far as a penetrant is definitely Aero Kroil , been using Kroil for the past 5 years, and yes it's pricey but really digs deep into metal voids to dissolve rust.

Would it be better to ask which oils to avoid? I figure there's more good oils than bad, but I'm sure there are some real stinkers in the oil world that are best avoided for one reason or another.

KY... I laughed as well. It might do well for all we know...

I am beginning to guess that we are getting fleeced a bit by the gun oil companies if half of it looks and smells like ATF and the rest could be easily replaced with some form of motor oil for a fraction of the cost...

STOS by Ponsness Warren. 100% synthetic, very wide operating temperature range, very slippery, and stays put.

Top of the list to avoid is Kroil......it turns to gum , just look at the top of any Kroil can, and it reeks to high heaven.
Also for oils to be used in the bore avoid any oil with Teflon ( Rem Oil) unless you like shooting dozens of foulers.

A few years ago. I used Kroil Oil on the triggers of my F class guns when I put them away for the winter. What a trick! Come Spring, I had to take the triggers completely apart and clean out all the Schmegma. They were so gummed up that they would not function.

Years ago we used Eezox with no ill effects.
