We had a gun show this weekend in the town next to ours.
I am collecting pieces and parts to build a Mauser styled like the guild rifles built between the wars.
I traded a nice FN Mauser in 30-06 trade marked J C Higgins. I bought it for $200 many years ago.
Remember them?
I got some $$$ and what was once a nice Guild Gun with a military stepped barrel in 8x57. Stock had been butchered, and the bolt bent/ground down for a scope, with the up and over safety. Drilled and tapped, a couple extra holes. It was kind of sad to see what some blacksmith had done to it.
Rich to the rescue.
The good news: the bore is good, and it still had the double set triggers and bottom metal. I was rat holing $$$ to buy the DST and bottom metal package from NECG to put on a very clean commercial 98 model (post-WWII) I had stashed. Instead of $400 +/- for new, I have this package for about $100.
It has been a very good day.
