GOOD ANTIMONY SOURCES?

It's been probably 20 years since I needed to add to my antimony supply for casting bullets. Where is/are some good sources that you folks use? Thanks!

I quit shooting cast bullets many years ago. I think they make wheel weights out of zinc now. Glue on weights. I found a small shop near where I live that made lead alloys for companies that cast bearings for heavy equipment. I told them I wanted linotype. They blended the alloy, cast it into blocks while I waited and sold it for a very reasonable price.

Don't forget you need some tin to increase fluidity. It makes sure the grease groves and the base corners are square and not a rounded curve. Tin is the expensive part.

Try a GOOGLE search for lead alloy supplies in your area.

I quit shotgun reloading many years ago and my old bags of shot are what I have been using of late.
That’s what I have always used as well…what I had on hand. I’ve heard that it melts into an alloy better because it is already bound to the lead. I don’t know how true that is…it is what I’ve always used

I have at least 500lbs of antimony hardened lead. My grandfather was a printer, and all of the dies they used for printing presses were hardened lead. I put it in the back of my truck in the winter months for weight

LOL
A buddy of mine and I melted down a 55 gal drum of linotype from a print shop that was shutting down, talk about a lifetime supply!
Great for alloying since it had a fair amount of tin in it as well!

Just curious, where do you park your truck? Asking for a friend! Lol.

Well I’ve got about 100 +lb. Of good ole fashion wheel weights from back in my casting days, my melting pot is under my loading table and I have moved my molds and sizer 50 times looking for something I needed. I keep telling my self when I get “ round to it” I’ll melt them down in to ingots still hadn’t got “round to it”

a friend of mine called me and asked if I wanted some lead from a print shop that closed and thinking it was 50 or 60lbs. I said I would take it. after I melted down the type into ingots, it came out to be almost 900 lbs of linotype!
Hey Dan,
That wouldn't have been Jim Henry by any chance? That's who sourced that 55 gal drum I mentioned and after we melted it all down in my driveway, we each ended up with @ 500lbs in 25 lb ingots

50/50 Lino & wheel weights (the old ones) made a great alloy for Pistol Silhouette Cast Bullet loads!
