good 243ai dies

I am waiting on a Pac-Nor barrel in 243ai. And I don't have a set of dies for that caliber yet. What is the best in everybodys opion. Thanks

Redding, rcbs, lee, whidden, harrels cutom, etc etc etc. You cant really go wrong with any of them. It really depends on if you are just hunting or shooting benchrest .

Why ?.?.?.?.?.?
Is there not other types of shooting realms (tactical, silhouette, high-power, varmint, etc...), and how about for them ?

The bushing dies are really good for setting neck tension to what you need.I run .002 thou for target work and .004 for hunting rounds on big game. Dmoran I was trying to answer his question and the genre's of shooting is target type shooting,it is just a general term. You seem to be jumping me again and I really don't know why.

Thanks Jon.I have never used bushing dies.Redding has a set I am thinking about trying but they are very expesive.I don't mind paying the price as long as they are worth it.

You could go with forster which are less money but you would be stuck using only their bushings. The reading uses theirs and Wilson etc with a better chance of finding in stock what you may need.

Redding bushing dies. They are more expensive to buy but after you use them for a while you will be glad you bought them.
What is BAT's motto?

I like that they support the case fully and that I can drop the bullet in from the top and then set the seater in and seat.....Lazy I guess, but it works for me.

I got started using the Wilson dies when I had a .17 AH and had just finished chemotherapy treatments, didn`t have much feeling in my hands, that coupled with little bullets and BIG hands didn`t add up well.... 8)

I found it easy to load for by dropping the bullets in from the top, it has just become MY standard for reloading.

I still use press dies for depriming and neck sizing.shoulder bumping.

The Wilson dies also make it easier to load at the range...

Phil.

Forgot to add........

I also buy blanks from Wilson and use my chamber reamer to cut my seating dies so they fit EXACTLY to my brass....

I prefer REDDING BUSHING I have 2 243ackleys I like being able to set my neck tenions to what it likes I know there other dies I just prefer REDDING

Someone mentioned to have a die blank(Wilson) chambered with your barrel. This works great.

For sizing I like a body die: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/474822/redding-body-die-243-winchester-ackley-improved-40-degree-shoulder
Send it(core) along with a few fire-formed cases to JLC precision, and Jim will make you a custom body-bushing die.
You could delete the bushing/neck sizing from this custom die, if you intend separate body sizing, and possibly Wilson bushing neck sizing. I do this.

So for a cartridge I'll use:
- Custom Wilson seating die(cut with my finish reamer)
- JLC custom body die
- Std Wilson neck sizing die

I recommend Lapua brass culled for thickness variance. No reason to go cheap on brass as you should easily get your money's worth in case life from a 243AI. This, provided you don't go sloppy with your chamber to begin, and then run extreme pressure loads on top of it.

Thanks to everybody for the input and ideas. As for having the custom dies made I don't think I can do that because I didn't think to buy my own reamer. That I will make sure to do next time.It will be a Pac-Nor ss sm 28" 3 groove 8twt 6 flute straight taper to1".Has anybody bought the reamer that they used to cut their chamber? I will ask Jay about that.He was very helpful and I liked there customer service.I just cant belive he told me I would have to wait close to 16 weeks for it.
