gonna try 243 Win

slightly worn Krieger 6BRDX bbl sittin around collecting dust so I sent it off and had tennon cut off and chambered in straight 243 and throated long enough to seat a 105 Scenar above donut area and have .050 jump,,just to see how it will do and what kind of speeds it will produce,,

in other words just for fun and the heck of it,,,gonna try and screw it on tomorrow and see if it will go bang,,

pic of the 105 Scenar loaded to 2.910 next to the BRDX with 105 VLD at 2.415,,

if nothing else I bet it will be fun to shoot steel plates with..

Seeing that 105 seated way out like that makes me envious that my magazine only allows 2.655" OAL. That thing looks fast sitting on the table. I think you will enjoy it. If it didn't eat barrels faster than 6.5x 284 I probably would have switched over years ago.

I've been shooting and reloading the 243 since the late 60's. Currently have four. I've shot ghog, predators, and deer with mine.

It's a great caliber in my opinion, easy to reload, light recoil, capable of excellent accuracy, and is an effective hunting round for the appropriate size game and distances.

One of my all time favorite bullets is the 85 Sierra BTHP with IMR 4350. Shoots like a match bullet and has excellent terminal performance.

MYSELF A BIG FAN OF THE 243 WIN 3 STANDARDS AND 2 243 IMP 40* YOU BE SURPRISED WHAT IT WILL DO OTHER THAN STEEL PLATES

If it shoots well enough/to your satisfaction, maybe have it Melonited? I have a 7.5 Krieger that will finish at abt 31" and am splitting an order of Palmas with him for the small primer strength. He feels 3250 should be a slam dunk with the 105/108gr pills in an XC. He has neck reamers so we're looking at making the neck to resemble the 6mm Rem length (.300) which has been in the back of my head for a year now. I should be able to seat anything as near or into the lands I want in the 75gr and up range. Maybe lower but haven't looked into that yet.

We're wondering if the 30°shoulder along with the extra neck length will move the turbulence point back to help with bbl wear. Ya pays yer money and takes yer chances.

If I were building any wildcat off of a 243 (and I did) it would be the 6SLR. You lose a bit of capacity, but you get a 30* shoulder and a longer neck all in one step with a sizing die, no fire forming required.
