Golf balls at 100 with 22 long rifle

I like shooting 45 acp cases at 100 yards the wind is the biggest factor for sure. Lots of fun!

Skip the golf ball and have a go at just the tee...had a little lollipop rack we used to have at. The little dum dums are a hoot out at 100

I've been shooting balls at 25 yards to 100 with a pistol for years and I've never had a ricochet off of one, but that's a good tip. I didn't know that.

My old heavy barrel Sears Ranger 10/22 bolt action rifle at 100 yards with plane-jane Federal American Eagle ammo. I think the rifle was built in 1940? Was my grandfather’s rifle way back when he got into target shooting for a while. Rifle shoots insanely good. Ive never had a misfire with it either. Had misfires in Ruger 10/22 rifles as usual, take the round put it in the old Ranger and it goes Bang!

Those are 1” squares on the target. Golf balls are easy money ;)

I looked at this with curiosity. When people find out i live on a golf course the next thing they ask if i play golf. My retort is “no. My idea of golf is you put the golf ball at a 100 yards and put a hole through it“. I was thinking centerfire when i saw that. I tried shooting a golf ball at 50 yards with a 22 and hit it 3 times and never penetrated the core. Tough little things

You didn't say "hell no"?

Yep....you have an insanely accurate factory rifle. And the fact that it shoots like that with cheap ammo is just crazy!

When I was VERY young, I remember working to cut through a golf ball cover to get to all that elastic rubber band wrapping inside. But the real surprise came when I cut into that pressured core in the middle.

By the way, a .22 used to be something I took out to burn a few hundred rounds through. But now, because of this thread I spent $1300 on an Anschutz, $600 on optics, another $150 on rails and rings, and now I'm starting to burn through ammunition searching for "the one" and learning to read the wind. So, for me this has been the most expensive thread I EVER read.

Thanks. It has the heavy target barrel. Originally the barrel was 26”. In testing with this rifle and my other 22lr rifles having various barrel lengths, I found that any length over or under 19-20” starts to slow velocity of the 22lr rounds down. I chopped the barrel but only took 2” off to make it 24”. Gained a little speed but still maintained good weight balance and accuracy

Sweet Tarts!!! Years ago, friend and I used to put sweet tarts on a board and try to shoot them. 25 yds and a pellet rifle, open sights. Offhand.
