Golf balls at 100 with 22 long rifle

For those of you that have shot 10 shot strings on golf balls at 100 with your 22 long rifle, what results you were getting on average? Thanks for looking.

Haven't tried golf balls, but judging by the groups I have shot, a good rifle and good ammo, should be 10 for 10 unless it is a windy day.
I was kinda wondering about those windy days when the matches are always held. I agree on a calm evening judging by groups one would think it would be a high percentage of hits.

Just got done today shooting eggs at 100yrds. 5 out 8 of us cleaned 5 and the went to dum dum suckers for a play off. Playoff winner shot 3 suckers with the rest of us shooting 2. 22 degrees and a 10-15 mph wind and got about 2” of snow over the course of the day shooting. A couple years ago, our group shot golf balls for the play off but, basically the same as eggs. That’s when we moved to dum dum suckers

We are having our first 100 yard 22 match Saturday with golf balls, there will be a mix of rifles and some fairly new to this shooters so we want it to be fun. There are lots of ways to make it harder but don’t wanna discourage the new guys right off. The 500 yard balloon stage will be the more seasoned shooters so no worries there, (and centerfire rifles).

A friend of mines wife used a syringe to fill ping pong balls with colored water, then super glued a string on them. We hung them off the target backs and shot them with 17HMR's from 100 yds. A little breeze made it really interesting.

I used to shoot 200yds at golf balls with a .17 HMR with great consistency. But add a little wind, 5-8 mph,and then you have a different story. I found subsonic ammo worked best in my .22lr when shooting the same. Jeff

I looked at this with curiosity. When people find out i live on a golf course the next thing they ask if i play golf. My retort is “no. My idea of golf is you put the golf ball at a 100 yards and put a hole through it“. I was thinking centerfire when i saw that. I tried shooting a golf ball at 50 yards with a 22 and hit it 3 times and never penetrated the core. Tough little things

With a "center fire" like .221 Fireball, you have to look close. Bullet makes a very small hole and real hard to see. The rubber inside seals back up after the hit.

We routinely shoot Gummy Bears at 100yds, Oreos at 200, and eggs at 300 with CZ457/MTR Manners with Lapua Midas+, Athlon 6x30x56. Outdoors usually with a little wind but that's what makes it interesting. Gummy Bears mostly don't miss at 100, Oreos 80%, Eggs 30%

The shooters coming Saturday to shoot the 22 class won’t have the equipment to shoot gummies at 100 nor the quality ammo it takes. This is a match for newer shooters mostly so I’m gonna say golf balls will be a challenge. Now the unlimited centerfire class will be a different story, a few top shelf guys will be there. Thanks for the replies

I used to shoot golf balls until I realized I was getting ricochoets on marginal hits. In my situation it proved to be unsafe.

Yep, had the same happen to me. Golf balls are tough little critters, caused a few ricochets. Stopped doing that!
