Go gauge for Remington 700

Basically what I'm shacking the bush about is.
Remington internal action threads re cut to 1.077 and barrel tenon to say 1.075. Most thread chart show (1.0625). Other show 1.078 or 1.076. Depending on the class of threads. Just wondering why? if 1.078 can be max should all chart show that. I'm talking about Maj. Dia. Devil's advocate :)

Hello,
I have been researching Single point cutting on Remington 700 action threads. I like the idea of having the 1.075 and 1.077 gauge to use. How do you know the depth of cut when making the gauge? Can you cut the blank .002 bigger and thread with a form tool and let it cut the .002 and you know your at the right depth?

Get a set of ring gages...
This is not a good example mainly because it seems high to me. If you are patient, you can likely find a set(go and no-go) for under $100.
Read up on thread classes and get a pretty good understanding of those, in the meantime.

I am looking at internal threads. I can change the class but max is 1.078 or with in a few thousands.

Internal/external...you deal with pitch, major, minor, class, etc. Not sure you fully understand what is being explained by others that posted. Changing the major and minor within reason is not going to change class of fit. The number you need to be concerned with is the pitch diameter. The major and minor range is simply clearance when threads are mated together. Set up and chase your internal threads and thread mating tenon to fit. Once it fits, measure over wires and record that number. All other tenons threaded to that number will fit.
